Karthi's Sulthan theatrical revenue gives hope

Karthi starrer `Suthan' is termed a hit in trade circles after 5 day collection in Tamil Nadu. The film bombed in Andhra. Telangana. After Thalapathy Vijay's Master, the next biggest release was Karthi starrer Sulthan. It had a wide release in Tamil Nadu and despite mixed reviews, the collections show that it touched the expected figure that a Karthi film would collect. Despite the big budget of Rs30 cr ( considering previous film Kaithi), the collections have not risen but kept to the benchmark of a Karthi film business.

The film from the opening day in Chennai never crossed  the Rs 50 lakh  mark on any day. For 5 days it grossed Rs 1.87 cr in Chennai.  The films total Tamil net for 5 days stood at Rs 17.45cr. Telugu gross was Rs 4.60 cr. Overseas was Rs 2.15 cr.

The satellite - digital-audio -Hindi dubbing theatrical rights have given producer S R Prabhu  Rs 18 cr. The Telugu rights was said to have be given for Rs 15 cr as it included satellite- OTT rights too. This is disputed as Star Network which bought the TV - OTT( Disney- Hotstar) rights has footprint in all language market and would not agree for a Telugu exclusion. Sources say that AP/ TS theatre was given for Rs 5 cr.

Considering that `Kaithi' made at half the budget of Sulthan had given close to Rs 12 crores as profit. Sulthan is still considered a `hit' as it is in pandemic times, when after Master, all Tamil films failed, this managed to collect a decent profit.

The cast and crew of Sulthan threw a `success' party in Chennai. Theatres are now putting up Dhanush cutouts and fans ready to welcome `Karnan'. It has an uninterrupted 6 day holiday ( Tamil New Year day and weekends) to rake in the moolah.
