Rajinikanth - Aamir Khan to shoot on October 15th for COOLIE

Now it seems Aamir Khan is joining him for the Chennai schedule . It was a rumour in August and it came after Lokesh met Aamir in Mumbai. But now Mumbai portals and Peepingtom reports this. Aamir and Rajini acted thirty years back in a film Aatank hi Aatank and it bombed. In the film ‘Aatank Hi Aatank’, Aamir played Michael Corleone in Bollywood’s version of ‘The Godfather’. He said - “After the release of this film, I was shocked. I felt like I shouldn’t have done the film. No sooner did I watch the film did I realize that I have really done a very bad job. I chose some not-so-good roles at the beginning of my career.”, In fact AGS Boss Archana posted a pix with Aamir last year. It led to a speculation that Aamir was approached for the Thalapathy movie GOAT or Thani Oruvan 2 ( to reprise role played by Aravind Swami).

 

IT'S CONFIRMED. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Tamil cinema legend Rajinikanth are set to reunite on screen, nearly three decades after their forgettable collaboration on The Godfather-inspired crime thriller, Aatank Hi Aatank (1995). Aamir will play a special cameo role in the Tamil superstar’s action thriller, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. 

The specifics of Aamir’s role have been strictly kept under wraps, but it's believed to be a unique character Lokesh has thoughtfully crafted just for him. The director has designed a brief but powerful sequence with Aamir and Rajinikanth in the same frame, promising a memorable, mass-appealing moment for audiences while simultaneously elevating the film’s narrative. Aamir has given his dates and is supposed to shoot for this highly-thrilling cameo during the film's next schedule, beginning on October 15 in Chennai. 

Coolie, which marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film in the leading role, boasts a stellar ensemble cast that includes Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj and Mahendran. Aamir’s addition further doubles the excitement surrounding this film, while also adding fuel to the months-long rumours about his full-length feature collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. Although it remains unclear if their speculated discussion was only about this cameo or if they would actually be working together on a feature movie soon, the possibility of Aamir Khan and Lokesh Kanagaraj working together has left moviegoers excited.

Aamir Khan has already committed for cameo roles in two films, and this Rajinikanth movie will mark his third one in the last six months. The other two films featuring him in cameo appearances will be Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947 and Vir Das’ Happy Patel. On the work front, Aamir will next be seen in RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, which is expected to release in March 2025. Rajini falls sick and returns- Coolie badge no 1421 decoded

As we are winding up, Cinema Murasam reports that Rajinikanth who took part in a rain sequence fell ill and on Doctor’s advise has come back from Lokesh Kanakaraj film Coolie location in Vijayawada. Like in Deewar, where badge no 786 is auspicious to Amitabh , in Coolie, Rajini as Deva holds the badge no 1421 . In Deewar, Amitabh works as a Coolie in Mumbai port and his badge number is 786. A pious Rahim Chacha tells Amitabh who is Vijay Verma that - In our community, 786 is considered to be very auspicious. 786 is similar to OM. My son, the meaning of 786 is Bismillah. It’s like saying, “I shall start by invoking the name of Allah.” It’s a very auspicious thing, my son. It is endowed with a lot of prosperity. Keep this badge with you always. How Lokesh got Sathyaraj to act with Rajinikanth ?

Though we had reported a incident of Sathyaraj and Lokesh and left it at the point that Lokesh had not made up his mind on the offer that the actor made. ( read - https://southfilmy.blogspot.com/2024/05/g-v-prakash-dhanush-are-gay-sangh.html#google_vignette) Now it seems that Lokesh has brought Sathyaraj on board and with a twist- Sathyaraj plays a pal of Rajinikanth in Coolie and a full length. Beyond this, the coming together of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj marks the end of a 38 year old feud between two actors. Last film they worked was Mr Bharat. A remake of Trishul the Big B Hindi film. Sathyaraj played father to Rajini in the film. In Hindi, the role was played by Sanjeev Kumar and with shades of grey. In the end, Sanjeev Kumar takes the bullet meant for Amitabh, his son from his love affair that he did not honour. Old timers tell us that the reason for Sathyaraj to be in the film was Rajini. A Kovai Distributor says that Rajini film Veera was sold for Rs 75 lakhs and Sathyaraj film was sold for Rs 25 lakhs. In fact, Sathyaraj anger against Rajini took a flash point when he was denied permission to hold a success meet of his film at Valluvar Kottam by State Government. The same venue was given to Rajinikanth as he was Superstar. It seems that AVM along with Shankar was pushed to offer Sathyaraj the baddie role that was played by Suman in Sivaji The Boss. AVM offered twice the market rate of Sathyaraj. At that time, the actor’s hero market had come down and was accepting supporting roles. Also his own production company run by his mananger , was caught in financial mess. Sathyaraj felt offended that he was given heavy amount for a negative role. He send Manivannan to Rajini and asked to play a negative role in a film with Sathyaraj as hero. Sathyaraj wrote an article Thamizh Da in which he praised Dr Vishnuvardhan the Tamil actor who made it big as Kannada Superstar and his stance on the Cauvery water issue and in same article referred Rajini as Sivaji Rao Gaikwad ( Real name that show Rajini’s Kannada Background). He also gave an interview in which he said that he would die if Rajini became CM as a non- Tamilan rule cannot be justified. It was clear that Sathyaraj statement was a personal one as he was an open admirer of MGR, a Malayali by birth. Years later it is said that Lokesh offered Sathyaraj a role that was parallel to Rajini and that of a antagonist . Sathyaraj was by now sitting with not less than 20 films in hand and widely basking as Kattappa. In his inimitable style, he did not hear out the role but instead asked Lokesh – You want to just have my name for the hype or because the role demands me ?. If you want me for hype, it will be costly. If the role demands, then it will be less. Now we will have to wait to see Coolie to know the truth. That the role is of a friend, we can expect that Sathyaraj is needed for his talent.

Vikram movie review: Kaithi + Master +Kamal Hassan ; only for gangster movie buffs

Vikram , re- entry of Kamal Hassan leaves no stone unturned to make it  big at box office. Yesterday, director Lokesh tweeted - Pls see or revisit Kaithi before seeing Vikram. Reason is that some of the characters in that film and roll over of scenes come in Vikram. If you have not seen it- nothing to worry. Anyway there is no need to say revisit Master - as it is still fresh in our minds.

A larger than life RAW ( bad days for RAW ref- Beast) agent is coming out of retirement. Reason being that his son is dead and trail leads to a bad cop ( Chemban) and a drug mafia kingpin Vijay Sethupathi with another undercover cop ( Fazil) on his trail . Now first half takes it's own time to build up even tough it has a racy start. From interval, film tempo builds up and there is no lag. Surya in the climax is a scene stealer.

Vijay Sethupathi has meaty portions that give him an instant appeal to viewers and Faahad needless to say is just brilliant. Compared to them, Kamal Hassan though the pivotal and USP of the film has taken a role that does not outshine these actors.

Though action choreographers AnbuAriv have directed most of the scenes, Lokesh signature is evident in many scenes like  the kid and Kamal or in the VJS scenes. Anirudh BGM is just apt and cinematography ( Girish) an added muscle to the technical excellence. For a gangster movie genre buff, Vikram is paisa vasool  and those looking for a family entertainer it is a red alert. Has excessive violent scenes but nothing revolting and the gangs are not that scary to frighten weak hearted women and kids. In fact, these baddies are a funny lot.
