Few films in Indian cinema look capable of challenging its booking record. Only future titles like Salaar 2 or Kalki 2 appear likely to come close, but Pushpa 2 remains safe for now. Breaking the Allu Arjun starrer’s record will take extraordinary numbers. For the moment, Pushpa 2 continues to lead as the benchmark for advance bookings in India, and audiences now wait to see which film will dare to topple it. Franchise films like Baahubali 2, KGF 2, LCU film Leo, and Mohanlal’s Empuraan did very well at the Kerala box office, but Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 failed to meet expectations and became a big failure. Apart from Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated sequel, all the films listed above debuted with record-breaking numbers and achieved massive success over time in Kerala. Now Kantara Chapter 1 has also exceeded trade’s expectations, and despite not having much pre-release jump and multiple films running in theaters, it still sees a 6 Cr opening, which is one of the biggest openings in Kerala.

Last November Alia Bhatt was in talks to headline filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s yet-untitled woman-led film. But 11 months is a long time for things to change. Ashwin, whose Kalki 2 is now undergoing a round of casting following Deepika Padukone’s exit, is reportedly considering focusing on his woman-centric film in the interim. However, that clashes with Bhatt, who is said to have given bulk dates to Maddock Films’ Chamunda from March 2026. In the latest development, industry chatter suggests that the filmmaker has resumed talks with Sai Pallavi, who has long been his choice to lead the action drama. A source close to the production revealed, “Nag didn’t let go of the idea of the woman-led film. It was simmering on the backburner through most of 2025. With the developments in Kalki 2, bringing the other project forward is a possibility.” Pallavi, however, can allot her dates only after the two-part Ramayana is complete. The source adds, “She is expected to wrap up the second instalment of Ramayana by mid-2026. If the dates align, she could step into Nag’s film before he moves to Kalki 2.” Insiders, however, insist that schedules and casting could shift, given the dynamic nature of the projects in question.

Vinoth, and Vivek Athreya are in talks with the legendary actor, a new speculation has surfaced on social media, and this is something that the fans didn’t wish for. Reportedly, Thalaivar might soon team up with Kanguva director Siruthai Siva. The project is said to be in its early stages, with discussions still ongoing.

Lipika Varma of Deccan Chronicle reports : Actor Dhruv Vikram, son of renowned star Chiyaan Vikram, is set to collaborate with veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam for an upcoming Tamil film, a source close to the project confirmed. Shedding light on the storyline, the source revealed, “It’s a simple Chennai-based love drama centered around a cop. Naturally, it’s a love story between a police officer and a city girl.” Interestingly, the source added that Mani Ratnam is returning to his roots with this project. “This time, Mani Ratnam is making a film purely in Tamil. It is not a pan-India film. However, the makers do plan to dub it in Telugu and Hindi after its release.”

Regarding the production schedule, the source shared, “Filming for this Dhruv-starrer is expected to begin in September 2025 and will wrap up in just 60 days, by February 2026. Interestingly, it is also said to be the most modestly budgeted film of Mani Ratnam’s career.”
Dhruv has recently wrapped up work on Bison, directed by Mari Selvaraj, which is scheduled for release on October 17, 2025, during the Diwali weekend.

Actress Rukmini Vasanth, whose last release didn’t fare well at the box office, has been roped in to play the female lead opposite Dhruv. She is currently shooting for NTR31.

Rashmika Mandanna has been cast to play the negative lead of A6. Reliable sources confirmed the development to Bollywood Hungama saying, "Rashmika had the choice to play the negative lead in either A6 or another big Pan India film. After hearing both the roles, the actress had to make a tough call but she decided to come on board Atlee's next, as the character allowed her the chance to explore the uncharted territories."

Nayanthara - Sundar clash averted / Dual role for Allu Arjun in Atlee film/ Crumbling Kerala Box Office

Nayanthara highhandedness with an AD of Director Sundar C on the sets of Mookuthi Amman 2 led to stopping of the shooting. The dispute arose after the Actress who plays the title role and AD had an argument over a costume that the actress refused to wear . A different costume was her choice and that of her personal costumer. As the Directorial unit felt that the argument went overboard, they raised the matter with Sundar. He called for a packup. Tempers flew and things reached a flash that it was either the Director or the Actress who be in the film. It seems Producer Ishari Ganesh mediated and shooting started at a temple on outskirts of Chennai. Pollachi schedule was cancelled. Nayanthara and Sundar’s production companies are co- producers with Vels Ishari Ganesh.

On April 8th, the official announcement of Allu Arjun- Atlee film is expected. Sun Pictures is the Producer and like Theri, Mersal ( triple), Bigil,Jawan, Atlee has given a dual role to Allu Arjun. Anirudh is the composer. Shooting might be in August.

After Atlee moving to Tollywood with Allu Arjun, next in line is Lokesh with Ram Charan. It seems KVN Productions after Jananayagan with Vijay and Yash’s Toxic has signed a three film deal with Lokesh and one of them is a Ram Charan film. Whether Kaithi2 and a subject featuring Suriya as Rolex ae part of this we are not aware.

Empuran is turned out to be India’s No 1 box officer opener at Box office as per ticket booking platforms and on the other side last month – February 7 films released in the Kerala theatres. Out of these 17 films, 11 were huge disasters! The cumulative budget of these 17 films was 75.23 crore, and they together contributed 23.55 crore as Kerala’s theatre share. As per a report by Onmanorama, even in the month of January, only one film succeeded at the box office. “Rekhachithram‘ directed by Jofin T Chacko, was the only hit among the 28 movies released in January, as per the producers association. Tovino Thomas starrer Identity’, made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, managed to collect only Rs 3 crore from theatres in Kerala,” said the report.

According to some reports, one of the reasons he was there was to meet director Atlee, as both of them are collaborating on an upcoming project. Another filmmaker who has established a base in Dubai is Sukumar, the director of the Pushpa franchise. Reports suggest that he has been staying there to work on the script for his upcoming project with Ram Charan. The last film Sukumar and Allu Arjun worked on together was Pushpa 2: The Rule, which revolved around a sandalwood smuggler, a rags-to-riches story. The film was extremely successful, grossing INR 1,493.84 crores and making a net of 1,265.97 crores. Thudarum on Disney HotStar for Vishu ( April 14). The Ott platform had agreed to take the film as Vishu attraction and going by this the producers will release it in March. Initially it seems that Rajputra the Producers were in talks to release it directly on OTT. As the film skipped the January 30th release date, many speculated that OTT deal was not confirmed. The idea to release directly on OTT and forego the theatre collection was mooted as Disney was willing to offer a good price. Thudarum is marketed as a family drama and as the pair Lal and Shobana appearing as middle class strata of people. It looked like the ones that the pair ‘s hit films in late nineties. Insiders say that Director Tharun of Saudi Vellkaakka has woven in a suspense drama in the family entertainer. Lal has given the Producers the confidence to take the theatre route and then go for OTT. Fans are hoping to see the vintage Lal and Shobana.

About Atlee 6 with Salaman, source shared with Bollywood Hungama, “A6 is a period drama with reincarnation elements, and Atlee is planning to create a unique world. Salman is also excited to explore something fresh with Atlee and is all charged up to lose the weight too, as A6 requires him to have a certain kind of physique.” Thudarum on Disney HotStar for Vishu ( April 14). The Ott platform had agreed to take the film as Vishu attraction and going by this the producers will release it in March. Initially it seems that Rajputra the Producers were in talks to release it directly on OTT. As the film skipped the January 30th release date, many speculated that OTT deal was not confirmed. Pushpa 2 Producers payments to Allu Arjun, Sukumar Writings and AA Entertainments that distributed the film in North India were found to be not in order in the IT returns filed by Mythiri Movie Makers. The three players are now to set right the records with the IT who has taken records after the raid. Sources say that it has nothing to with Allu Arjun or false box office claims. It was with theatricals that doubts came up: AP/TG - 180 cr Producer released on their own most of the territory and few third party their share was close to 155 cr Hindi- 447 cr Of which 340 cr was producers share and AA film North distributors made whopping 107 cr . PUSHPA 2 HINDI SUCCESS (DID ONLY CHAPRIS WATCHED IT ????) - RAGHUL OPINION

Pushpa 2 is massive success in Hindi Belt. There are ofcourse people in denial still 🙄.

Now ever since this movie became success. Certain motivated fans (No marks for guessing) and certain PR machinery who thinks massive success of Pushpa 2 in Hindi belt might undermine their star hero’s success recently started spreading this message

“Pushpa 2 is made for chapris and by chapris”

First of all I did not understand “ By chapris” are these guys saying South Indians or telugus are chapris. That's pretty racial to me.

Next this is high quality bhojpuri movie is another comment. This is already demeaning bhojpuri movie. Also movies is about a labourer who became a smuggler. He is uneducated . You expect him to speak in Bollywood porche Bandra style Hindi accent and do a duet with srivalli in foreign locales.

I really don't understand this commentary from motivated fans.

Highest collections has still come from Metropolitan areas ie Mumbai(Gujarat and Maharastra), Delhi and East Punjab.

Ok forget that chapris will only watch in single screens available but maximum footfalls on day 1 has still come from Multiplex chains in Hindi belt.

Conclusion-

It's a stupid of many to try and undermine their own audience as chapri. Their actions and statements are motivated and with full jealousy.

Instead of crying on certain sect or individuals may be work harder to give content ie acceptable to all.

As Pishpa 2 crashes in Kerala- meet Khader Hassan who made him Mallu Arjun

As Pusha 2 Kerala collections are drying up after two days of release and distributors staring at Rs 60 cr loss, we go back to days when Allu Arjun was called Mallu Arjun for hos popularity in Kerala.
 Director Jis Joy said that he went to Thiruvananthapuram and dubbed without any hope when the movie 'Arya' came in 2007 Since Allu Arjun's debut film Arya, he has been voiced by Jis in Malayalam. 

The growth of Allu Arjun’s stardom in Kerala, where no Telugu star has ever enjoyed a major fan base, is largely thanks to the efforts of Khader Hassan, a small-time producer from Thiruvananthapuram, who brought Arjun’s Arya to Kerala. He produced a dubbed version and released it across the major centers in the State through his distribution company, Redak Media.

“I did not foresee his stardom,” says Hassan. “He was a lesser-known actor then. But I felt Arya had the potential to be a super hit. It’s a highly energetic film, and Allu was so energetic. There was no such actor in Malayalam at that time – young and energetic, whom family audiences and youngsters could love, like Vijay in Tamil. Allu had that charm,” he adds.

Hassan started off as a producer in Mollywood. The first two films he produced – Swapnam Kondu Thulabharam and Nakshathra Kannulla Rajakumaran – flopped at the box-office, eroding his finances. That prompted him to change tracks, and try his hand at films in another language.  “Once, when I was in Chennai, I happened to watch on TV a song from the Telugu film Nuvve Nuvve. It was very cute, as were the visuals. I thought youngsters in Kerala might love this film. That was in 2001. I didn’t exactly research the market. I bought the dubbing rights, gathered a team of writers and voice-over artists and got the work done,” he says.

Nuvve Nuvve became Pranayamaay. Satheesh Muthukulam wrote the dialogues, and Rajeev Alunkal, then a  novice, handled the lyrics. “We would sit together and discuss how the lyrics and dialogues had to be. I didn’t want them to sound awkward,” says Hassan, who already had a distribution agency in Kerala; it made theatrical release easy. “We promoted the film like  we would promote a film starring newcomers.” Pranayamaay was followed by films such as Nilaavu Pole, a dubbed version of Ela Cheppanu, starring Tharun and Shriya. Hassan also brought to Kerala Happy Days, a campus film by Shekhar Kammula, starring a bunch of fresh faces. The film became popular in the State.

But, it was Allu Arjun’s films such as Arya, Happy, Bunny and Krishna that turned Hassan’s fortunes. The industry would agree that Allu Arjun’s stardom in Kerala was largely shaped by Hassan, who registered fans’ associations for the actor to promote his films. The first unit was registered in Vellanad area of Thiruvananthapuram in 2006. At present, the Telugu star has over 300 such units in the State.

“I chalked out a market plan for Allu Arjun. I knew it was important to create a superstar for the dubbed films to be superhits. So, I took the initiative to form fans’ associations for Allu. We distributed over 15,000 ID cards under the banner of Allu Arjun Fans Association in 2003.”

The response was great. Famed voice artist Jismon Joy, now an established filmmaker with three movies to his credit, was chosen to be Allu’s voice in Arya after a massive audition. The makers were looking for a soft, youthful voice for the actor whose forte was boyish characters, and Jismon fit in perfectly.

Jismon continues to dub for Allu Arjun, although Hassan no longer distributes the actor’s films in Kerala. “Allu’s fans tell me that they can’t imagine another voice for the actor,” says Jismon.

Hassan notes that although a section of the Malayali audience does not accept the gravity-defying action that is common in Telugu commercial films, another section of youth enjoys it. “See the number of youngsters registered in various fans’ associations of Allu Arjun across Kerala,” he says.

When Hassan started producing and distributing dubbed films, the concept of satellite rights wasn’t very prevalent. Television channels had not yet proliferated. Surya and Asianet, the two powerful players, were not willing to air dubbed films. Now, all of them telecast dubbed films, especially those starring Allu.

“After a few films, I became a familiar name in Tollywood. I received an offer to make a dubbed version of films such as Eega and Mirchi. Prabhas wanted me to take up the dubbing of a few of his films,” says Hassan, adding that he lost the opportunity to take up Baahubali because he was working on his directorial. “That was a foolish decision,” he says.

It’s been over five years since Hassan produced a dubbed film. In January, he released Njanum Ente Sreeyum, the dubbed version of Oh My Friend, starring Siddharth, Shruti Haasan and Hansika, which was released in Telugu in 2011. “I bought the dubbing rights the same year, but there was a delay in release,” he says. Hassan’s last major release was in 2012 when he distributed Gajapokkiri. He took a break for his directorial debut Friendship, which released in 2016.

Hassan’s directorial debut Friendship, which he had also produced, sank at the box-office without a trace in 2015. The film had a youthful cast and was made on the lines of Telugu entertainers such as Happy Days. However, Hassan missed the point that the new generation wave had transformed Malayalam cinema beyond recognition from what it used to be in the first decade of the 21st Century. The failure of the film devastated Hassan who had already incurred a financial loss from the distribution of a few dubbed films.

“I was very ambitious when I started out. I dreamt about changing the industry and making a mark. I don’t know if I have done anything at all. Sometimes, I feel I have accomplished nothing,” says Hassan.
