RAJNI MEDIATION WORKS AS SHANKAR - KAMAL TO START INDIAN 3

 Why Rajinikanth wants Indian 3 to be released ? He has agreed to do a film for Lyca Productions to compensate for the loss incurred over Lal Salaam . Now Lyca cannot proceed without getting Indian 3 released. After Thug Life, Kamal feels  Indian 3 has the chances of a winner. So Shankar who is now without any production house backing him for his Velpari needs a Indian 3.

Director S. Shankar’s last two films, Indian 2 and Game Changer, have both flopped. Despite having A-list stars, massive budgets, and impressive pre-release hype and promotions, both films crashed and burned. The production house behind Indian 2 and Indian 3 is Lyca Productions, which is currently facing its own financial troubles.

Naturally, the production house seems to be insisting on lowering the budget for Indian 3. However, Shankar has been firm in his demand for a production budget of 6 to 8 crores to complete the remaining portions. If this were before 2024, when these two flops had not yet occurred, the production house might have agreed to the budget. But considering the performance of Indian 2, this demand is seen as excessive.

What is the role of Rajinikanth here

Rajinikanth is acting as a mediator in this ordeal. He has worked with both the director and the production house on 2.0, which was released back in 2018. Additionally, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are good friends. As a result of these relationships, Rajinikanth met with Shankar to convince him to proceed with a reduced budget. Latest news is that Shankar has agreed to Lyca’s amount and if everything goes right, the film will release for Christmas.

Thalapathy Vijay has been unbeatable since 2017. In 2017, Mersal earned around 23.8 crore gross, creating an all-time record in the state. It was followed by another record opening with Sarkar in 2018, which earned 31.75 crore gross. After Sarkar, Beast delivered the biggest opening.

Beast has the highest day 1 collection in Tamil Nadu

Beast is currently the biggest opener at the Tamil Nadu box office. Released in 2022, the film earned a mind-blowing 35 crore gross. Even Leo, despite a huge hype, failed to beat it and opened at around 34 crore gross. But now, it seems that Beast will finally be dethroned, and Coolie is likely to capture its position.

Now, with Coolie enjoying crazy hype in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth has a chance to dethrone Vijay’s Beast from the top spot. Rajini’s last record opener was Kabali, which earned 19.1 crore gross at the box office in 2016. It remained at the top spot for a year and was dethroned by Mersal.

So, Rajinikanth has an opportunity to seize the throne in Tamil Nadu after 8 years, and the task is likely to be accomplished on August 14.

 

 

 

Goof Up in Vidamuyurchi teaser ? Lyca confirms our Report

 The film has music by Thaman.

 

Once we were first to report that Sundeep is hero of Jason Vijay's directorial debut film. Lyca has officially announced the film with a motion poster. We learn that music is by Thaman. Sanjay has tagged Director Sanjeev in his X post. The motion poster on You Tube is on second spot. For this project, Ajith Kumar's manager Suresh Chandra is the PRO and his company Done Channel too has been tagged.

Shankar's Game Changer lyric song looks like a 90's wedding album is the trending troll. Yet another comment that is trending is that as producers exhausted the Rs 450 crores, they edited in photoshop and that is why it looks horrible. The song has 22 million views. After Indian 2, the next from  shankar is Game Changer. Will Shankar give a hit ?

 Teaser of  Vidaamuyarchi shows a scene  of Hollywood film it.  Did it appear deliberately in this teaser or was it a indication that the film is a crossover of IT  film character Bowers and the hero of Breakdown. The teaser shows  a missing persons board and a  paper clipping of the Harry Bowers missing. Was is  a goof up or an indication of things to come ?  

Is the antagonist in Vidamuyurchi modelled on Harry Bowers ? Henry Bowers, the character in Stephen King's "It," is portrayed as a bully and is generally mean to others, including girls. In the 2017 film adaptation and its sequel, Bowers is depicted as a violent and aggressive character who harasses and intimidates his peers, particularly the Losers' Club, with a focus on his hatred towards them. While his interactions with girls are not the primary focus, he embodies toxic masculinity and engages in bullying behavior that can extend to anyone he perceives as weaker, including female characters. Mammootty in Sri Lankan Political thriller - Madhu turns 91

 

Mammootty – Mahesh Narayanan political thriller will be funded by Lyca Productions . The film will have Mohanlal in an extended cameo and screen time of 20 minutes. The shooting portions of the film has around 30-40 days in Sri lanka and this film being a political thriller, is the film anything to do with Sri Lankan politics ? What adds to this theory is that the film has an equally long schedule in London. We all know that London is also a hub for overseas Tamils of Sri Lankan origin. Similarly New Delhi is another major locale. The fact that Lyca’s owner Subhaskaran is a Sri Lankan Tamil adds to the likely angle of the thriller.

Yet another aspect is that Mammootty Kampany and son Dulquer’s Wayfarer films are coming together with Lyca. A photo of Mammooty with Mohanlal and Producer Antony of Aashirvad Cinemas together led to a speculation that Mammootty is playing a cameo in underproduction film and sequel to Empuran directed by Prithviraj.

About the Mahesh Narayanan film, we learn that de-aging technology is to be used for younger days of Mammotty. In the anthology based on MT stories, Mammootty portions were shot in Sri Lanka. If Mahesh Narayanan is the director can it be with without Fahadh Faasil?

Shooting has started in Nagercoil for Mammootty film directed by Jithin  K jose began without Mammootty. Vinayakan is playing a guy who is targeted by by a bad cop played by Mammootty in the film. Dulquer is the Producer.

A short nostalgic trip . A news item that Madhu has turned 91 , prompted me to pen a few thoughts about him. Though I had interviewed Madhu several times in Trivandrum for Screen, it was my chat with him in Palmgrove Hotel Chennai that lingers in me. Madhu had a soft corner for me as he has seen me when I used to accompany my grandfather Ayyappan Pillai ( ex Trivandrum Corporation Comissioner) to Sri Moolam Club known as SMC. While my grandfather sat inside and played cards , I sat in the lounge and read the magazines. Madhu was also a card player.

After the card game, I would help my grandfather board the car and go to our house. Sometimes, our car would not be available and anybody from the card game set gave a lift. Many times Madhu has given us a lift. I learnt from my grandfather that Chemeen’s Bombay show and publicity was all coordinated by S S Pillai then Editor of Screen weekly in Bombay. Pillai is none other than my grandfather’s younger brother. A side track- my aunt Udaya Tara Nayar later became Editor and later yours truly headed the South Bureau of the magazine.

Many times on my visit to Trivandrum ( I was by then based in Chennai for Screen ), I used to see him and talk to him at SMC. My cousin was a member of SMC. Cinema Express , Tamil fortnightly from Indian Express ( Madurai ) group was part of our group. The Editor Ramamurthy and I shared a good friendship.. I suggested Madhu name to Cinema Express Awards Life Time Achievement award. I went to Trivandrum and invited him. I asked him which hotel he wanted to stay. He said that Palmgrove and quipped if it still exists.

He came one day earlier. He told me that he had not informed anybody about his visit to Chennai and said that he would feel bored if there was nobody to talk. As I had a few invites to give, I told him that he could start the `session’ and I would join later.

When I arrived, Madhu was in full form. I joined him. I had told him that a car was at his disposal as soon as he arrived. I asked him if he went anywhere. He said no and said that he spoke to some and they were all not very active. He asked me what was the rent  of the cottage that he was staying and I said that it was Rs 5000 per day.

This sparked a nostalgic trip in him. He said that for Chemeen , he was paid Rs 2000 and adde that Sathyan got paid Rs 12,000. “ I had most of the scenes than Sathyan “ he added. Do you know that the film totally cost Kanmani Babu Rs 8 lakhs ? he asked.

He wanted to go to actress Srividya’s house and said that he was having dinner with her. I gave the exact route to her house then located in Alwarpet.

After the function , he was leaving next day early morning for Trivandrum. I bid him goodbye at the hotel and told him that office car and driver was parked in the hotel. Next day, the car driver came with a big smile – “ What a gentlemen ! He carried his own suitcase and tipped me a Rs 100 . He pushed it in my shirt pocket. No VIP has even bothered to even goodbye leave alone give a tip”.

Trisha in Salman Khan film - Lyca Profits from Indian 2

Our Trisha trackers are excited as they heard that their idol is to feature in a Hindi film with Salman Khan and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Director is Vishnuvardhan. It was ten years back that she made her Hindi debut.

Our Trackers say that Lyca the main Producers of Indian 2 have only profited from the film’s business and to a certain extent, Red Giant has suffered a dent as the film in neighboring States did not do well and within Tamil Nadu, it had underperformed. Red Giant will face the same buyers in other States for Indian 3 and though the buyers need not be compensated for losses, the banner will have to make adjustments. Lyca overseas biz seems to have exceedingly well and giving them much needed moolah. As per Comscore on number 1 is Despicable Me 4 and on 7th place is Indian 2 with total Worldwide collections at $13,658,696 and collections outside India at $11,690,000. USA weekend stood at $1969,696. Totally it amounted to Rs 114 crores. The India nett is at Rs 45 crores and rest has gone to Lyca. Trade points out that if taking into the interest on capital and years that the amount was locked, this is not much. Red Giant that has funded both the versions has been able to take not much but then Rs 45 crores for 5 days is not bad for a film that got drubbed badly. With the OTT and TV rights, Red Giant loss might be not much. Part 3 will decide whether the account books of Red Giant will be on the plus.
