Adipurush reviews create war on social media - 2018 director opens up on OTT
War of words has erupted between Telugu social media and the Tamil- Malayalam netizens over Adipurush. The combined opening in Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the film is only Rs 2 crore while the film comined opening in two Telugu speaking States is Rs 45 crore and Karnataka has Rs 7 crore opening. In Hindi the opening number is Rs 35 crore.
Telugu social media feels that Tamil and Malayalam movie buffs are jealous that a Telugu film has got such an opening in North India and overseas ( Rs 29 crores) on opening day . They point out that Tamil films do not get such high numbers outside their own State or overseas. They cite films like Ponniyin Selvan that collected only in Tamil Nadu and to an extent in Kerala.
Culling scenes from Adipurush and trolling them for most anticipated films is quite expected on social media but this time Telugu film goers or maybe Prabhas fans have taken objection to it. They point out the makers have at the outset made a disclaimer that they have taken cinematic liberty with Valmiki Ramayan.
Saif Ali Khan’s haircut and looks as Ravanan and long haired mustached Prabhas as Ram to the chic looking Sita are being trolled. Some say that the producers allotting a seat for Hanuman in each show has been ridiculed as they say that Hanuman sitting for three hours would have been a torture. Most often comment is that better Ramayan on Kids TV is much better than Adipurush. In Hyderabad outside theatre a YouTuber giving a review saying that it was like in a playstation was beaten by fans. Videos of a seat earmarked for Hanuman in a theatre given an arthi and a money getting inside the theatre to chants from audience shouting Jai Shri Ram are viral.
Film 2018 director Jude reacting to Kerala Theatres strike for streaming it on OTT when it was running full house said that his movie Oru Muthasi Gadha was running full house for one month and as Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan was coming, theatres pulled out his movie saying that a big movie was coming. 2018 box office has beaten Pulimurugan records of being highest grossing film of Malayalam . Jude says that if his next film is not doing well at theatre, they will not screen it till it comes on OTT.

2018 opens bigger than Chatrapathi in Mumbai - Raja and Bharathiraja team up after a decade
According to trade reports, on its first day, the 2018 Malayalam film collected more than the highly anticipated Chatrapathi and went on to surpass IB 71's collections by the weekend. Despite Bellamkonda Srinivas' popularity from his dubbed films on YouTube, his Hindi debut turned out to be a disappointment. The film was heavily promoted in Mumbai, but the Hindi remake of the original, which was directed by S S Rajamouli, failed to impress. In contrast, the 2018 Malayalam film's Hindi dubbed version collected Rs 1.10 crores on its opening day alone, thanks to positive reviews and word-of-mouth publicity.
The film's failure can be attributed to the fact that audiences have been watching Hindi dubbed versions of Rajamouli's Telugu films since Bahubaali. Although the original film was released 18 years ago and the remake retained the same screenplay, some felt that it appeared outdated to today's audience. Additionally, comparisons between Srinivas and Prabhas, who starred in the Telugu film, worked against the former. Some reviews criticized Srinivas for doing nothing more than beating up bullies, while others felt that Nushrat Barucha's performance was her worst to date. Some even labeled the Chatrapati remake as one of the worst films in recent times.
In contrast, the 2018 Malayalam film has been a box office success. It had a sensational opening weekend overseas, grossing around 15.05 crores before continuing to perform well during the week and bringing in a total overseas collection of around 28 crores during its first week. The film's opening weekend in Gulf countries was even bigger than that of Marvel's Part 3, and in the UAE box office, it beat out "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" to become the biggest movie of the weekend.
