I saw the movie with Syam pushkaran works - 'Maheshinte
Prathikaram' , Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum' both with Dilesh Pothan as
director and 'Mayanadhi' ( co- writer), Kumbalangi
Nights' ( writer- co- producer) in mind. The Syam- Pothan combo to me
coming again with Faahad again created
an expectation in me that Joji did not fulfil. Probably to those who saw it without
all these in the back of the mind, Joji will no doubt be a different fare.
The line - inspired by
Macbeth, was not needed. Macbeth dealt with guilt and emotions. Joji was all
about a son who has no remorse in killing his father and brother and towards
the end it turns into a crime thriller. To many of us we have seen such characters
in umpteen movies set in a feudal Nair or Christian planter family background.
Only in these films Joji’s character would be a villain and Baburaj (elder
brother) role of a hero ( he cannot fall to pellets from villain’s air gun) .
What I found striking was the
character of the Church Priest. He looks too young but the way it was moulded is
interesting. A far cry from the Priest who swallows everything as the family is
rich planters. Technically superb and background score excellent. Usually when
end credits roll, I switch it off. This time the score made me sit till it
finished.
I feel quite bored writing film after film about Faahad being superb. To me he came in a role of Joji that was something he would do even half awake. Here again I thought I would get a different Faahad as in two earlier outing of Pothan. Bincy ( sister in law) just bowls you over with her expression. Unnimaya, the actress in that role is just great.
