Kubera only South film FFI jury had a look/ Theatre Release rule overlooked

 From the South ,. Dhanush Kubera was closest that came to consideration by FFI jury that selected Indian entry for Iscars. We learn that Director R V Udhyakumar was on the jury.

Indian entry to Oscars Homebound marks Ghaywan’s return to direction after nearly a decade. The project has heavyweight backing, with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions serving as producer and acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese onboard as executive producer., Last year Aamir Khan name associated with Lapaata Ladies did the trick. However the selected film is releasing only on September 26^th and rule says the film should have had a theatrical release before coming to FFI jury.

Why Theatrical Release is Required 

• Academy Rule:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requires each country's submitted film to have a public, non-preview theatrical run of at least seven days to ensure it is a film that was commercially distributed within its country of origin.

• Producer and Exhibitor Benefit:

This rule is also intended to provide a benefit to both the film's producers and the exhibitors (cinema owners).

The Selection Process

1.     Submission: Filmmakers submit their works to the FFI for consideration. 

2.     Eligibility: Films must meet all Academy eligibility requirements, including the mandatory seven-day theatrical run in commercial cinemas within India. 

3.     Jury Evaluation: The FFI forms a jury to evaluate the eligible films. 

4.     Final Selection: The jury votes to select one film to represent India at the Academy Awards. 

Therefore, a theatrical release is a mandatory step for a film to even be eligible for consideration as India's official Oscar entry, rather than an event that happens after the selection. 

 

Sun backs out of Vijay film deal - Truth of Pushpa 2 Game Changer Hindi biz

The report that Pushpa 2 has closed a Rs 200 crore for Hindi and so also some fancy figures for Game Changer and Devara. Here is the truth. Only three companies are in talks with the Telugu films mentioned. All the companies are willing to do take it on a commission basis and not outright. Secondly no OTT company has closed any deal with these film producers. We are told that Zee5, Karan Johar and AAA Thandani are the three buyers in the field. Thadani has taken Pushpa 2 on a commission basis for North India and the film is expected to do Rs 200 crores biz after taking into account the first part collection. Thadani and Karan have taken Devara and Karan takes Presenter avatar of the film, it means that he is in charge of theatrical release and Thadani has Digital rights. There is no upfront money or outright sale. Game Changer has Zee Group as co- producer and that takes care of TV and OTT streaming rights. Thadani is in talks with Dil Raju to get the distribution rights for North India and that again on a commission rights. Mumbai distributor says that the words used by some media houses like valued at are only for a hype to keep the fans adrenalin pumping. He informs that Devara having Karan Johar as presenter is big asset due to his trade acumen and Dil Raju might plump for Karan. As you are aware Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli were in Dubai, they have come back due to floods.

When Prithviraj picked Rockybhai from airport as unit forgot him

 

Yash alias RockyBhai of KGF who came to shoot for a music video Spirit of Chennai was stranded at the airport as the film unit that was filming the video did not even known that there was an actor called Yash coming from Bangalore for the shoot. For the same shoot, Prithviraj had arrived at the airport . He came to know through the escort that took him the car about a Kannada actor Yash was waiting in the airport as logistic team of the shoot has not arranged for one. Prithviraj immediately asked the driver to go back to the airport and walked up to Yash and asked him to accompany him. Yash told him that a car was on the way but Prithviraj insisted and took him along to the hotel.

As Kannada film KGF is able to created a Pan Indian  film on a Rs 100 crore budget, the second or almost same ranked regional language film industry is Malayalam , in terms of box office returns. In many discussions as whether there is a director who has a mettle to created a KGF like mammoth film from Kerala, the first name that comes is Prithviraj.

Though Kerala film industry had has Rs 100 cr club films like Puli Murugan - Lucifer - Premam, Kurup , Kayamkulam Kochunni and Drishyam, none of them had a pan Indian appeal. Film industry watchers say that Malayalam film industry has many writers whose works can be a subject for Pan Indian appeal.

Prithviraj as a producer- distributor is by now a known name in Bollywood film circuit, He was sharing stage with Karan Johar at the KGF  2 function in Mumbai. Prithviraj is the distributor of KGF 2 in Kerala. In an interview, the actor  said that Pan Indian films do nt happen in Kerala, as after the completion, the discussion to dub it in other languages come. Nobody shoots with a Pan Indian audience and mainly for hte film to get noticed in Hindi heartland, one needs people like Karan Johar and similar big names to take it across widely.
