Why Rajinikanth's Hukum still rules Tamil Box Office ?

No wonder Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 promo released today continues to break the internet. Rajinikanth film Vettaiyan is in the 12th position of Indian Box Office of 2024 as per Ormax survey. Two other Tamil actors in this list are Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT and Sivakarthikeyan Amaran. This is the answer to those who said that Vettaiyan is a flop !!! In 2024, two Regional film industries that did exceptionally well are Malayalam filmdom and Gujrati films. Kerala filmdom went on a historic high from collections of Rs. 572 crores in 2023 to Rs. 1165 crores in 2024. The industry crossed the Rs. 1000 crore mark for the first time ever and main factor was Manjumel Boys and Premalu. Gujrati filmdom from Rs. 50 crores in 2023 to Rs. 84 crores. A major factor behind it was the success of the horror comedy Jhamkudi, which collected Rs. 20 crores plus. Among the Indian actor’s , Ajay Devgan had two films in top list – Shaitaan and Sigham Again. As per The Ormax Box Office Report 2024, while the total gross box office collections of 2023 were Rs. 12,226 crores, the 2024 earnings dropped by around 3.32 % and stood at Rs. 11833 crores. The three saving grace films of the year were Pushpa 2 – The Rule, Kalki 2898 AD and Stree 2. These were the only films that crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark. The Tamil cinema finally made an entry to the list at the seventh and eight positions with Thalapthy Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time (Rs. 305 crores) and Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran (Rs. 258 crores). By collecting Rs. 174 crores, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan made it to the twelfth position. Malayalam film for first time entered the list. Manjummel Boys collected Rs. 170 crores .

Backed by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures, there have been no official announcements about the cast and crew of Jailer 2. Will it bring back Vijay Kartik Kannan who created magical frames for the film? Will the movie see the return of Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal, and Jackie Shroff? Will newer stars enter this galaxy? The four-minute teaser begins with the news channel announcing the impending Fengal cyclone, as we see Anirudh Ravichander and Nelson Dilipkumar discussing their project. Their conversation is interrupted by men who are being shot and attacked black and blue. Petrified by the sight, we see the most-awaited entrance by none other than Rajinikanth. A bomb comes rolling towards the duo, as Rajinikanth walks out of the house. We see some people with snipers pointing towards Rajinikanth, he takes out his eyeglass and we see through it the snipers blown away by torpedoes coming from behind him. It ends as the teaser is accompanied by Hukum soundtrack from Jailer. The promo ends with the duo announcement of Jailer 2.

Jayam Ravi Rs 4 crore surety for Brother - Lokesh praise for Nelson film backfires -

 Jayam Ravi had to step i at last moment to get Brother released. Gold Mine Manish who acquired the digital rights backed out. The amount shortfall was to settle the outstanding dues. First three days report at theatres show that the film is not doing as expected. Apart from the son Makkihi, the comedy of M Rajesh who directed films like Ok Ok, 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' has fallen flat. First two days Brother India collection is Rs 2.5 crore.

Hot Shot Director Lokesh Kanagaraj had praised Bloody Beggar produced by his friend - Director Nelson of Jailer fame. He termed it as something that has not been attempted before in Tamil cinema. Now after the film tanked, the video is doing the rounds and come to haunt him. The film collection is on par with Brother. Considering that Kavin the hero is relatively a newcomer and the Director Sivabalan Muthukumar a non entity, the opening is a credit to Kavin.

Are Rappers be called music composer ? . This a point raised by music director Shaan Rahman in his reply to Rapper Satyajit who alleged that his composition Freak Penne in Oru Adar love film was not credited to him and instead it was given to Shaan Rahman. Rahman says that the film director asked him to incorporate the song that was on social media and all he did was to produce the song in his studio. The music company usually credits the song to the music director and rapper are credited for lyrics and vocals. He points out that EMINEM is called a rapper and not a music composer. Rahman said that he would make changes in credits of the song and satisfy Satyajit.

Nelson director Jailer has turned producer. He has cast Dada fame Kaving as hero and Priyanka Mohan as heroine. Directed by Siva Balan, the film has music by Anirudh. Latest buzz on Anirudh is that he has dropped out Naga Chaitanya film with Sai Pallavi and instead Santosh Narayanan has been brought in. reason for bring Santosh is that the fees demanded by Anirudh is too high for Naga film market. All about Rajinikanth Jailer box office and frenzy

Jailer starring Rajinikanth has not beaten opening day collection record in Tamil Nadu but tops Worldwide collections is what one could gather from the box office figures put out by reliable trade analysts and trade sites. Yet another surprise is that on Friday, the second day there was a marginal fall in home State. As from Saturday to Monday are holidays, the film is expected soar as media and social media have largely liked the film. After two days the film has 75 crores collection worldwide. First day in Tamil Nadu was Rs 29 crores and second day Rs 20 crores. Ironically Beast directed by Nelson (who is also director of Jailer )with Vijay opened to Rs 38 crores and Ajith’s Thunivu collected Rs 2 crores less. Yet another surprise is Rajini’s previous film Annatthe opened to Rs 34 crores . Biggest collection outside of home State was from Kerala where the Mohanlal factpr worked to the advantage. In Kerala on day one it collected Rs 6 crores. Many have lauded Malayalam actor Vinayakan who played the baddie. As per reports USA reported a massive number and is said to have set a record for a Tamil film opening. Vijay Varisu life time collection US marker was $1,141,590 while Jailer opening day alone is $1,158,000. Sri Lanka reported Rs 2 crores opening. In two Telugu States , Jailer saw no drop on second day and posted a Rs 9.5 crore distributor share in two days and will break even by Saturday as it needs to collect Rs 12 crore. Thalapathy fans slam Jailer on social media - Remembering Sidiqque

Jailer reviews on the net and in social media has sparked a war between Thalapathy Vijay and Thalaivar fans. Negative reviews are termed by Rajini fans as one put out by Vijay fans and some reposted these negative reviews and circling the DP showing Vijay photos to establish that it is Vijay fans taking it out for Rajini speech at audio release. Reviewers had a tough time as Tamil Nadu theatres were allowed to show Jailer from 9 AM only and in neighbouring States the shows were from 6 AM. Many Youtubers went to Bangalore to catch the early show and posted it from there. Similarly twitter reviews came before the core Tamil fans could see. From 9 AM onwards , many celebs posted on twitter that they were in theatre waiting to see Jailer, Most popular post was by Rohini Theatre in Chennai Koyambedu which posted picture of Dhanush going inside to see the film Vetri Theatre saw Director Nelson, Ramyakrishnan and Anirudh . Majority of online reviews have given it a okay one time watch and says that it is not a disappointment In Keralam Mohanlal cameo has thrilled the audience and his fans. Similarly the Karnataka viewers too are excited about Shivaanna. Popular YouTuber Blue Sattai Maran says that he could not understand a word of the film and says that it a film directed by intellectual and made for them and not for common man.. Director Sidiqque was all ready to do a sequel to the Tamil film Friends starring Vijay – Suriya and also had a script for Ajith said Ramesh Kanna who worked in the director Tamil outings. Ousephachan said instead that instead of just saying film producer , he showed that he did not forget the past. A few years back Siddique’s regular art director Suchitra Mani had asked me whether I could arrange an story narration with Kamal Haasan for Siddique as the producer was a Mumbai based company and looking for a pan Indian Star. Kamal was then shooting for Vikram. Siddique had a narration session with Kamal and the actor okayed it. However Kamal had by then decided not to work in outside banner and do it in his own banner. Siddique opted to drop off as he wanted to be with the producer from Mumbai. Even before the Bodyguard film was released , Salman recommended Siddique to producers Bajaj Brothers who signed him.

Mammootty was to play villain in Rajini's Jailer and Amrin in big South films

Mammootty had agreed to play the villain in Jailer . This revelation was made by Nelson to the person sitting nearby at the audio launch when Rajinikanth without mentioning the name talked about a top actor being finalized for the role and how it got changed. Rajinikanth was told by Director Nelson that if this actor was cast as villain, then it would be good and asked him to give a phone call and put forth the offer as he is a good friend. He spoke to the actor and told him about the role and told him that it was ok if he did not want to play a baddie. He said that Rajini if u say that I should do then I will do it and asked Nelson to move forward. Later Rajini felt that it did not look good if he beats the actor and Nelson too felt same way. He then told him so and finally the search ended with Vinayakan. 26 years back Rajanikanth and Mammootty has acted in Thalapathy. According to Mumbai Mirror, the duo have agreed to act in a Marathi film directed by debutant Deepak Bhave’s Pasaayadan. Producer-politician Balkrishna Surve - responsible for bringing Thalaiva on-board - would be producing and presenting the film. Rajini was all praise for co- actor Mohanlal. He described him as a wonderful human being. Nelson said that Mohanlal accepted the role as he said that he did not want to miss the opportunity to act with Rajinikanth. Nelson said that all elements that one expects from Lal was there in Jailer.

Amrin who debuted in Rajkumar Santhoshi film Bad Boys has signed four big production houses films in the South. Studio Green and Price Pictures in Tamil , SrVenakteswara and Tagore Madhu in Hyderabad. Studio Green is currently producing a big film titled 'Surya 42' in which Surya is playing the lead role. Prince Pictures recently gave blockbuster hit film 'Sardar' and producer Laxman under his banner is now currently busy shooting 'Sardar 2'. Baapi and Prasad under their banner SVCC have produced many successful films. Tagore Madhu has through Saraswathi Film Division has signed Amrin to play a leading role in one of his films.

Chiyaan Vikram in Kamal's Maruthanayagam revival - Director Nelson dumped - Kamal in Taiwan

It has been reported that Rajkamal Films International, owned by the renowned Indian actor Kamal Haasan, is in discussions with several production companies to revive the historical film Marudhanayagam, which was started 26 years ago but eventually shelved. The twist in the tale is that the new version of the film will have Chiyaan Vikram playing the protagonist. Haasan's concept for the film is to use the portions that he had already shot for the original version, which account for almost 40% of the film.

Marudhanayagam is based on the true story of Maruthanayagam Pillai, a commander of the East India troops who converted to Islam and came to be known as Khan Sahib. He was betrayed by his own men for the Arcot Of Nawab, who had a dispute with the British. He was reportedly hanged thrice to confirm his death after having escaped hanging twice before. Despite his eventual capture and execution, Maruthanayagam is remembered as one of the fiercest warriors that the British forces had ever encountered.

The original production of Marudhanayagam had to be halted when the British production house that funded it withdrew its support after India's nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1998. However, the renewed interest in historical epics after the global success of films like Baahubali and RRR has sparked hope for the revival of this project. With Chiyaan Vikram taking on the lead role, fans are excited to see this long-awaited film finally come to fruition.

Nelson dumped and Lokesh gets VIP status at Award function

Not only the film industry, but the media as well tends to discard individuals who were once riding high on success. The video of the red carpet event at the Vikatan Awards has become popular, and the reason is the treatment towards Director  Nelson, who directed the movie "Beast" with Vijay, has faced criticism for the way the film was made, causing him to fall from grace. During the red-carpet event, Lokesh was escorted by bouncers and staff, and large screens inside the venue repeatedly focused on him until he reached his seat. On the other hand, Nelson was only escorted halfway and left alone to make his way to his seat with Redin Kingsley. Rajini's fans are upset and have urged Nelson to get back at the Vikatan organisers by giving a hit with Thalaivar’s "Jailer.

Kamal in Taiwan for Indian 2

After attending the audio launch event for Mani Ratnam's epic movie 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' in Chennai a few days ago, Kamal Haasan, flew to Taiwan last night to shoot for his much-anticipated film 'Indian 2', which is directed by Shankar. 'Indian 2' is a follow-up to the successful vigilante thriller of the same title, in which Kamal Haasan reprises his role as the freedom fighter Senapathy. Kamal Haasan posted a picture of himself at the airport with the caption "Indian in transit 2 Taiwan! #indian2". Recently, Shankar disclosed that the talkie portions of the film would be finished by June, followed by a song shoot, after which the post-production work will commence. Margaux Lancaster, the make-up artist, has also flown to Taiwan to work on the film. Produced by Lyca Productions, 'Indian 2' boasts a star-studded cast that includes Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Delhi Ganesh.

Beast review : Rajinikanth needs to have a rethink on Nelson direction

Beast shows again that young directors lose their grip on the narrative when they have a STAR  who is a Thalapathy to his fans.  Nelson is confused as to how to treat a wafer thin story with a larger than life Vijay's image and more so confine the hostage drama  within a Mall. He has to bring in a Sylvester Stallone kind of Vijay during action and then shift to kid sentiment and comedy. Finally, he hits a roadblock. How do we end the film ?. The happenings so far are so limp and merely gunning down the bad guys will not do. So hero takes off in a fighter jet ( not provided by Indian Airforce) to fly to POK and do a URI surgical. JAI HIND.

The best of Beast is all there in the trailor.  Anirudh BGM is so loud and even drowns out dialogues. The songs and choreography with camerawork ( Manoj ) is a plus. Pooja Hegde ??? . Comedy ??? . Merely sporting a swag, style and playing Mr Cool, Vijay to an extent satisfy his fans but is this all that is needed in a Thalapathy film to be a hit at box office ?. It so then Sun Pictures can laugh their way to the bank. 

Rajinikanth who is teaming up with Nelson for his next has to doubly cautious. Nelson is not able to balance the Stardom of Vijay and combine his narrative style seen in two of his earlier films.  It can worst with Thalaivar as hero.Tbere is director Selvaraghavan in a role that only Nelson can describe and as per a Biz report on Beast Selvaraghavan was paid Rs 2 cr. Sun got ripped off.

In a first : Tickets for Beast trailor at black rates - Vijay 's Sun TV interview after 10 years

Thalapathy Vijay's Beast is the first film whose tickets for a Trailor of a film was sold at the black market for a premium. After 10 years,Actor Vijay will appear on Sun TV for a interview with Nelson , director of Beast. Finally, with help from Actor Shime Tom Chacko, the main baddie was spotted in the trailor of Beast.

Usually, trailor of big ticket films are released in theaters along with films that are running in the hall. There have been instances where the shows of flop movies got housefull boards after the trailor screened. Many theaters like Rohini in Chennai screened trailor on open screen ooutside the hall as a bonus to fans. This time however, trailr screening became organised and converted it to a channel of revenue by theater owners. In many Districts trailor of Beast was screened for Rs 50 per head ticket. In some halls the celeberation of fans went over board and glass windows - seats were damaged. YouTube critic Blue Sattai Maaran in a tweet showed shots of a ticket sold in a theater in Madurai. Tirupr Subramanian , Exhibitors Association said that by allowing unlimited crowds inside the hall or outside the hall to watch trailor was risky if any untoward happened, He said that the theater license would be cancelled. In Chennai suburbs, theaters for Rs 1 a ticket allow fans to watch trailors and no one without tickets are allowed inside. So over crowding does not appen and usual security for a fan film release is put in place. In another first, Vijay interview is coming on Sun TV at 9 PM Sunday April 10th and it is after his last apperance on this channel for an interview in 2011 as promotion of film Velayutham. The actor's audio release for films produced by Sun Pictures has appeared.

After the trailor appeared, many started asking where is Shine Tom in the film. Some reviewing the film also spoke about a bald foriegner coming as a bad guy. Now Shine put a clue in his insta post with his makeover look.

Putting to rest all speculation, Sun Pictures officially announced that Rajinikanth 169 will be directed by Nelson and Anirudh scores. the music. Nelson is directing Thalapathy Vijay in Beast for same production company.  Sun Pictures gave an announcement alert saying that it coming at 6 PM on twitter. Since yesterday, fans were waiting for the announcement. It was confirmed that Sun Pictures was to produce it. Rajinikanth had taken for a photo shoot for advt announcement just before his public appearance at opening of a hotel in Chennai.

The announcement comes at a time when Nelson is going through a busy phase on the work front. The director's new movie Beast, starring Vijay and Pooja Hegde, is slated to hit the screens this April. It will be his first big outing after Doctor, which...is releasing on April.
