Only Rajinikanth Coolie and Rishab Shetty Kantara Chapter 1 from South are in the top 4 of the Rs 300 crore club of Indian cinema. Two other films are from Bollywood. The box office details of top 4 grossers 2025, 2025 witnessed a lot of competition between two different genres and many solo arrivals. Some of them failed, and others won the hearts of the audience. Despite a historical film being released on Valentine’s Day, Chhaava left the trade experts in shock by taking a double-digit opening, and the rest was history. 2. Saiyaara Mohit Suri is a name that fits perfectly in the list of romance and thriller experts. He knows how to attract the masses without elevation scenes and a hero taking down hundreds of bad guys alone. This time, people questioned if two debut actors, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, would manage to pull huge crowds with Saiyaara. But the situation turned out to be opposite right from the time when people witnessed the glimpses in the form of a trailer and music videos. Compared to Chhaava, Saiyaara accumulated Rs. 300 crores in a week, and the lifetime gross collection in India is Rs. 400 crores. The youth were able to connect with the storytelling, the lead pair’s chemistry received praise, and the public took the memories back home while coming out of the theatres.

3. Coolie The combination of a blockbuster director and a big superstar can create something that will not be forgotten in the future. The same thing happened when Lokesh Kangaraj and Rajinikanth came together for Coolie. People rushed to get their tickets, even in the early morning shows, and gave a big welcome to Rajinikanth on screen. While the crowds did not stop entering theatres, the response was mixed for multiple reasons. The presence of a pan-India star cast also did not help much. Despite leaving a certain section of the public disappointed, the action-drama collected almost Rs. 320 crores gross in India. The number was good but not outstanding as per expectations.

4. Kantara: Chapter 1 Sequels and prequels have always been a big risk. Rishab Shetty undoubtedly had to think and rethink before preparing a good story after the success of Kantara three years ago. The budget was increased, more time was taken in the making, and the results have been phenomenal. Just like the previous part, Kantara: Chapter 1’s climax is now creating an example for other big filmmakers. Some are even questioning whether there is any other actor who can bring a better film or concept like this. As usual, holiday releases can be beneficial for the box office. Kantara: Chapter 1 has already silenced everyone with an opening day number of Rs. 70 crores, despite arriving on Thursday. The highest gross collections came on Sunday with Rs. 72 crores alongside Rs. 51 crores on Friday and Rs. 64 crores on Saturday. The final number remains at Rs. 332 crores. People have not stopped booking tickets, and the lifetime collection could be Rs. 500 crores in India alone. New records have been created. But the question is, who will break them now?  After Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan release Madharaasi has failed the Monday sscare and numbed miserably. Unlucky streak for A R Murugadoss continue/ SK’s star power gave a good opening but after wards it slumped and Monday saw a 60 % drop. Reviews were mostly positive but word of mouth talk from non SK fans was negative as the stylish choreographed action  and songs fell flat.  Trademark SK humour- romance was missing. According to Sacnilk, Madharaasi minted ₹4.15 crore at the box office with maximum in Tamil language (₹3.5 crore), followed by Telugu version (₹6 lakh) and in Hindi the film earned ₹0.05. The movie witnessed a 61.03 per cent drop since Sunday, failing the Monday test miserably. It seems the negative word of mouth affected the business. Adding the four-day collection at the box office, the movie earned ₹40.55 crore at the box office in India. The film had an overall 25.91 per cent Tamil occupancy on Monday, with maximum reported in Puducherry (41 per cent).

While fans are looking forward to rewatching it on small screens, the makers have announced something special. A day before the film hits OTT, its original soundtrack (OST) will be released on YouTube and music streaming platforms.

Coolie holds a special place among audiences for its energetic songs and background score. Anirudh Ravichander has delivered hits such as “I Am the Danger,” “Chikitu,” “Mobsta,” and “Monica.”

Lokah becoming a Pan Indian hit is not possible after the poor response in North belts. Following the Madras High Court order, Netflix is likely to remove Aajith’s Good Bad and Ugly from the platform, The film had its digital premiere on May 8, 2025, following its theatrical release. Ilaiyaraaja moved the Madras High Court, where Justice Senthikumar passed an interim order restraining Mythri Movie Makers from exhibiting, screening, selling, distributing, publishing, or broadcasting Good Bad Ugly on any platform, including OTT.

 “Coolie,” which released on August 14, completed its first week and has now entered the second week. As per our exclusive information from distributors in Andhra and Telangana, even with a strong second weekend, the film will still end up losing a minimum of Rs 10 crore. The Asian Suneil–Suresh Babu duo, who acquired the Telugu theatrical rights, are looking at losses beyond Rs 10 crore on their investment.

The Telugu rights were bought for Rs 44 crore, and with additional expenses, “Coolie” needed to collect over Rs 46 crore share to break even. Current trends indicate that will not happen.

The only silver lining is that “Coolie” has fared better than “War 2.” But the outcome remains the same: a losing venture for distributors.

BiggBoss Tamil season 9 in October / Coolie recovers 61 % Budget

 Bigg Boss Tamil 9 will start in the first week of October 2025. Bigg Boss Tamil 9 will be hosted by Vijay Sethupathi. Rajinikanth starrer earlier surpassed Ajith Kumar‘s Good Bad Ugly to become #1 Kollywood grosser of 2025 in India. However, it is yet to surpass its lifetime collection in Tamil.

For the unversed, Good Bad Ugly had earned 147.75 crores in its lifetime in the Tamil language. So far, Coolie has amassed 141.31 crores at the home ground, which means it is still 6.44 crores away from beating it.

But now, Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie’s real plot has been revealed. Reportedly, the film deals with organ smuggling and trafficking, which is run by Nagarjuna, and Soubin is his right-hand man.

War 2 Completes Censor Formalities: 3 Hours 3 Minutes Runtime

The Censor Board gave the film a U/A rating, and with the runtime of nearly 183 minutes, the movie ends up being 3 hours and 3 minutes long.

Vijay Devarakonda Kingdom release on OTT is facing issues technically an d also the agitation from Tamil Nationalist NTK. Some viewers, including members of Tamil nationalist groups like Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), alleged that the movie shows Sri Lankan Tamils in a bad light. In their official note, Sithara Entertainments said, “We want to assure everyone that we respect the sentiments of the Tamil people. There are no scenes in the film that were made to insult or hurt anyone.”

They also reminded audiences that ‘Kingdom’ is a completely made-up story. “It is a fictional tale. This has been clearly stated in the disclaimer at the beginning of the movie,” the producers added.

However, acknowledging the concerns raised by some groups, the makers expressed regret. “If the sentiments of any people have been hurt, we sincerely apologise. We kindly request you to support the movie,” the statement read.

Most of the people who have watched the film felt that the movie had a very good story, as it deals with strong emotions, but a lot of scenes that connect to the main story have been removed, as the team goes for a shorter runtime for theaters, which has heavily backfired.

So if the makers release the extended version on OTT, then there is a chance of people connecting with the film. If that happens, the response from the viewers can change the film’s impact, which will prompt the makers to go ahead with Part 2.

Read on what Lokesh says - Revelation came about organically as a response to another question posed to Lokesh Kanagaraj. He was asked, “Lokesh, when you’re writing, is there a mathematical calculation like, Oh my God, he got a highlight in this scene, so he should get another highlight three scenes later?” His answer was: “No no, if I don’t have the highlight for that character, I won’t even approach them. Likewise, Soubin sir, and initially it was written for someone, some other star. I don’t want to mention the name, but I couldn’t work with him for various reasons. But I don’t know where to go after that because I really wrote it for him. I wrote for him for, uh, at least six months, and it was like he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t take it, and I don’t know where to fix that character.”

He didn’t reveal the name of the actor who was supposed to play that role initially. Then he went to Fahadh as his second option, and Soubin was his last option: “I want to work with Fahadh sir again, but Fahadh sir was also not available, and I didn’t want him to do the same thing he had done in Vikram. So I was searching for a lot of other actors, and finally, I’ve signed on Soubin sir.”

Coolie is releasing in theatres on August 14, 2025. The “Monica” song lyric video was recently released, and Soubin appeared in the video alongside Pooja Hegde. Rashmika Mandanna has been cast to play the negative lead of A6. Reliable sources confirmed the development to Bollywood Hungama saying, "Rashmika had the choice to play the negative lead in either A6 or another big Pan India film. After hearing both the roles, the actress had to make a tough call but she decided to come on board Atlee's next, as the character allowed her the chance to explore the uncharted territories."

While there’s no official confirmation about the same, reports suggest that the makers of Coolie have finalized a lucrative OTT deal worth 120 crores with Amazon Prime Video. This is a huge sum and the biggest ever deal for a Rajinikanth film. His previous best was Jailer, which was bought by Prime Video at a price of 100 crores. With a rumored price of 120 crores, Coolie has locked the third-biggest OTT deal in the history of Kollywood. With a 24.75% higher price, Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life stays at the top. Reportedly, Netflix acquired streaming rights of Thug Life for 149.70 crores. Thalapathy Vijay’s The Greatest Of All Time is in the second position with a price of 125 crores (Netflix).
