Just having a Tamil Star in a film does not guarantee you a Kollywood box office  and in Telugu the presence of Nagarjuna got in the opening crowds . After Second Monday, film has sunk in Tollywood too. Director Shekhar Kammula’s latest film Kubera, starring Nagarjuna, Dhanush, and Rashmika Mandanna, recently hit theatres and made a strong impact at the Telugu box office. The emotionally driven film was released in multiple Indian languages, aiming for a pan-India reach. While the movie received a positive response in Telugu states, it struggled in Tamil Nadu despite Dhanush playing a lead role. The film failed to resonate with the Tamil audience, leading to a disappointing performance at the Kollywood box office. Reacting to this, director Shekhar Kammula said that the team needs to analyze why the film didn’t connect in Tamil Nadu. “We thought Dhanush’s presence and the story would easily appeal to the Tamil audience. But now, looking at the outcome, we need to introspect and understand where things went wrong,” he said. The team is now reflecting on the reasons behind the regional disconnect despite strong content and star power.

After Mahaveeryar the Nivin Pauly-  Asif Ali film , Shanvi Srivastava has signed another Malayalam film opposite  Tom Shine Chacko. The film is about narcotics world and Shanvi plays a negative character. In 2024, Srivastava made her Marathi film debut, with Raanti opposite Sharad Kelkar.

on Malayalam and Kannada Bigg Boss ; According to sources, Mohanlal would work on two more films before hosting the show. He is anticipated to provide a roughly 40-day timeline for the two of them, which would be shot in different parts of Kerala. One is Drishyam 3, and the other is reportedly Mahesh Narayanan's much awaited film, which also features Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, and Mammootty. JioHotstar will be streaming Bigg Boss Malayalam around-the-clock, along with being broadcast on Asianet.  Set work is on in EVP Chennai and August is likely launch date.

In January, Kichcha Sudeep announced his decision to quit as the host of Bigg Boss Kannada after appearing in the reality TV show for 11 seasons. Now, the actor has reversed his decision, much to the delight of fans. He is set to host the 12th season of the Colors Kannada show and three more seasons, revealed its organisers.

The actor said that he had at least 10-12 meetings with the team to iron out any kinks and eventually, the only condition he had for them was about the start date. “They wanted it to start at a certain date, and I have requested them to push it ahead by 3-4 weeks, as I am committed to trying and ensuring that I have a film release in 2025. Billa Ranga Baashaa is ongoing and another project will be announced shortly,” he said.

 On the opening day, Kannappa did a business of 9.35 crores. Compared to it, the film dropped brutally on day 4 and earned just 2.5 crores. If the difference is calculated, the collection dropped by 73.26%, thus sealing the fate of the biggie. From here, it might remain steady on lower levels, but it won’t help the film.

• Day 1 – 9.35 crores
• Day 2 – 7.15 crores
• Day 3 – 6.9 crores
• Day 4 – 2.5 crores
• Total – 25.9 crores

Budget and recovery

While the exact budget hasn’t been officially disclosed, it is learned that the Vishnu Manchu starrer is made on a budget of around 200 crores. Against this massive cost, the film has earned only 25.9 crores, which equals only 12.95% of the budget.

For those who aren’t aware, Dhanush has never delivered a 100 crore net grosser in his career. With Raayan, he had an opportunity, but failed to do so as the film ended its run at 94.85 crores.

With favorable word-of-mouth, Kuberaa is another opportunity for the actor to score his debut century. However, things are uncertain now, and everything depends on how well it picks up during the third weekend.

On the second Monday, day 11, Kuberaa earned an estimated 98 lakh, thus falling below the 1 crore mark for the first time. Compared to the second Friday, day 8’s 2.5 crores, it dropped by 60.8%, which is much more than expected. Overall, the 11-day collection at the Indian box office stands at 81.43 crore net. Adjusting for GST, the gross domestic collection is 96.08 crores.

Bou Buttu Bhuta earned 1.94 crores during the third weekend, pushing the 18-day total collection to 12.34 crore net at the Indian box office, as per Sacnilk. Adjusting for GST, the gross domestic collection stands at 14.56 crores.

Bou Buttu Bhuta currently stands at 12.34 crores. So, it has a golden opportunity to become the first Odian film to touch the 15 crore net collection milestone at the Indian box office. From here, it needs 2.66 crores to achieve the feat, which is expected to be accomplished during the third week or the fourth weekend.

Bou Buttu Bhuta blends horror and comedy with rural black magic folklore at the backdrop. The plot follows the life of Buttu and his mother, living a simple life in an Odisha village. Buttu, who plans to relocate outside of the village, faces challenges to pursue his dream life due to a series of unforeseen events that take place in the village.

Bou Buttu Bhuta has outperformed the lifetime collection of Babushaan Mohanty’s previous film, Daman. It had earned Rs 7.50 crore during its release in 2022.

Even the new releases in the form of Sitaare Zameen Par, F1, Maa and Kannappa have not been able to affect the collections of the Bou Buttu Bhuta which adds to the achievement of the film.

 Deccan Chronicle mentioned that Prime Video has allegedly bought Dhanush's Kubera  the film’s digital rights for a whopping 50 crore. This makes it one of the most expensive OTT deals in the Telugu film industry.

Kuberaa has a powerful cast featuring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. This combination of talent from multiple film industries has already given the film a hot buzz in cinephile circles.

The movie is being bankrolled with a whopping 120 crore (via Deccan Chronicle), one of the costliest films in Dhanush’s career. Moreover, fans also have high expectations from Rashmika Mandanna, who has already delivered massive hits like Animal, Pushpa 2, and Chhavva.

Director Sekhar Kammula is helming Kuberaa. It will be released in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, so audiences across India can enjoy it. With a strong team like that and a vast OTT deal, Kuberaa appears to be one of the year’s biggest films. Now, all eyes are on June 20 to see how this action-packed drama performs at the box office.
