Paid Negative reviews killed RETRO says Karthik / Thug Life 5th 100 cr / Vijayakanth son escapes Flop

 After Paid reviews to say positive aspects of a film, now Director Karthik Subburaj says that "I am fine woith critical reviews of a film. But this paid hatred and paid agenda to share negative reviews for a film... I just can't take that. " The Director was referring to his film Retro that he claimed was a blockbuster but in reality had just about scraped through. The Director had earlier thamked the media for good reviews and went on to announce a Rs 235 crore collection. It was silent on whether it was a theatrical collection but it turned out that it was inclusive of all earnings from theatre and non theatrical. The silver lining was that Suriya donated Rs 10 crore which he said was profit to his Charity Foundation.

A few days back a producer was seen in a video saying that his small film was not reviewed bya big reviewer who thinks that he is GOD as he could ask him to pay from the review. Irony was that this Producer was te pioneer to created a Twitter lobby of critics and industry watchers – trackers with the sole intention to give inflated box office figures for a set of producers that he advocated. The lobby that he created has now outgrown him amd become a rogue lobby.

Lets hear what Karthik and Bhardwaj Ranhan the host of the website has to say. Karthik says - He said "I am fine with critical reviews of a film. But this paid hatred and paid agenda to share negative reviews for a film... I just can't take that. " The host also acknowledged his views. Bharadwaj Rangan said "Even I heard from somebody that every actor has an enemy camp on Twitter, they are paid to run a campaign and discredit someone who shares good things about a film. " Karthik Subbaraj said "Not just that, they have an office, and they get paid for it. "

He added that, when he went to the theatre to watch Retro with the audience they seemed to enjoy it. "Everyone who I spoke to liked the film, they told me they are confused as to why the film got negative reviews. This paid campaign is very dangerous and it is very shocking. "

Karthik Subbaraj stated that Suriya’s Retro will continue as a web series. The filmmaker revealed that he has plans to release his film as a web series by extending each phase of the film into an episode. Retro on OTT did not create any ripples .

In his career, Kamal Haasan only has 4 films that have entered the 100 crore club worldwide so far. It is to be noted that we’ve only considered films starring him as the leading actor, hence Kalki 2898 AD has not been included.

The Late Vijayakant’s son Shanmuga Pandian starrer Tamil action film, Padai Thalaivan kickstarted in an impressive manner at the box office. However, on its 4th day it slumped but the theatre collection till date has recovered 80 % of the budget as it is around Rs 5-6 crores only. The OTT- TV and digital rights combined might pull the film to a no profit- loss situation.

The Shanmuga Pandian starrer opened at 1.29 crores which was not a very bad opening. However, on its second day, it saw a drop of around 5% and amassed 1.22 crores. But on the third day, the movie again saw a stellar growth of 43% and earned 1.75 crores.

Now, according to the early estimates in Sacnilk, the movie saw a crash of around 50%. It only garnered 87 lakhs which is the lowest day-wise collection for the film till now. The total India net collection of Padai Thalaivan 5.13 crore. Including the taxes, the gross collection comes to 6.05 crore.

Suriya Retro No USA premiere / Kushboo 2.0 and Vijayshanthi legacy

 

As many of us were sitting shell shocked after seeing Kushboo new look with 20 kgs weight loss and it reminded me of hr during the Ravichandran film day and My dear Marthnandam , trollers say that she might have take drugs that diabetes afflicted people take and by this they lose weight . I latr heard she gave a blast at these spoilsports. I think a new 2.0 Kush is expected. Hubby Sundar’s Gangers trailor makes one wanting to see the film. Alrady he is ona 2.0 version as Director with the Vels film.

 Yet to see the Telugu film Arjun Son of Vyjayanthi. Reason being Vijayashanthi returns to acting as a cop, a role she excelled in before. “Arjun S/O Vyjayanthi” has Vijayashanthi in the role of mother while Kalyan Ram plays her son. In her heyday, Vijayashanthi enjoyed the stardom equal to then-top stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, and Rajinikanth. She gained the tag of Lady Amitabh after the success of her portrayal of an IPS officer named Vyjayanthi in “Karthavyam,” which also earned her the National Award as Best Actress.

Just the other day, she said that her entire earnings are donated toa Trust named after her mother as she has no children. The Trust will be for welfare of children. Her jewellers have been given to the Tirupati Balaji’s hundi, she said.

Suriya- Kartihk Subburaj Retro has not so far listed anyUSA priemeres shows. This is asuprise as every Tamil film with a Star has an USA premiere and nobody loses the opportunity to make money. Apart from this Surya and Karthik has a fan following in Tamil and Telugu audience, the latter being the majority of the viewers abroad. The results and reviews from India are a pointer for USA ticket sales. Has Kanguva of Suriya affected Retro in USA ?

The audio of the film was launched . Santosh Narayanan scored the music. At the function Suriya thanked entire crew including leading lady Pooja Hegde who dubbed herself in Tamil.  He made a special mention –“ If our films have been screened in the northern states and have earned the love of the people there, the main reason for that is producer Jayanthilal Gada. I would like to express my gratitude to him at this moment.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film 'Retro' stars Suriya, Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nasser, Prakashraj, Sujith Shankar, Swasika, Singam Puli, Karunakaran, Nandita Das, Ramya Suresh, George Marian and many others. Shreyas Krishna has handled the cinematography and Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for this film. Touted as a romantic action entertainer, the film is jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films.

Maahan ; Dhruv Vikram has arrived

 

Maahan is out and out a film that can be said to be a Dhruv Vikram vehicle to stardom. Karthik Subburaj has given enough meat to Dhruv to chew on and he does it with great relish,  One also need to acknowledge that Vikram does not have  much scenes that brings him out his best. The film's strength is that the three pivotal characters - Vikram- Dhruv and Bobby Simha have been well etched . 

The conflicts scene between father - son is just superb. Dhruv lives the role of a cop with a revenge . His body language , dialogue delivery are just a treat. For Vikram fans they can see Dhruv washing his face his face with soda ( instead of beer like in Swamy) or the dialogue Athuku melay ( I). Good to see the Simha  all wanted to see. Simran role  is not effective.

There is lot of drama that does not connect. This leads  a lack of strong emotions in play. At places where you expect drama, it does not happen. Father- son first time meeting  while the one at Vikram- Simran meeting after two decades is just flat. Cinematography is top class like stunt choreography. Music is  ok. Finally, Dhruv Vikram proves he has with  him the goods to deliver.

Plagiarism charges on Shankar- Reported on July 19 -Media reports now

 

We reported on July 19 2021  1 irector Shankar -Ram Charan film in plagiarism row - Lingusamy Telugu film too in same boat (https://southfilmy.blogspot.com/2021/07/director-shankar-ram-charan-film-in.html.  For past two days the media is reporting it.

Aascar Ravichandran , two Assistant directors and a wavering Vadivelu have surfaced to queer the pitch for director Shankar, as he gets ready to start Ram Charan film (RC15) in the September middle.

The Lyca – Shankar dispute came before the court for hearing this week. Both the parties said that  direct talks with each other took place and a written agreement was being worked out. Court adjourned the case for 4 weeks.

Vadivelu had told Lyca that he would complete Shankar’s film 24am Pulikesi or else compensate the producer monetarily. Shankar told Lyca that his assistant Chimbu Devan who is directing the film was not keen on collaborating with Vadivelu further. Vadivelu has now backtracked and says that he cannot give any money but only call sheets. Shankar has to give a schedule to Lyca about the completion of the film Indian 2.Here again Kamal Haasan’s dates has to be factored  in as he is now acting in his own banner and anchoring Bigg Boss 5 is to start. The actor has to be free when Shankar come back from the first schedule of the RC 15 .

Chinnaswamy, an AD  had filed a plagiarism charge against Shankar with Writers  Association  saying that it was his subject that he told Dil Raju ( producer of RC 15  film) which is being now the basis for the film.. New complaint is from AD to Karthik Subburaj ( director- producer) whose story is said to be credited with RC 15 film story. He claims that the story is his and lifted by his boss. Karthik’s  film in anthology Puthum  Puthu Kalai was accused of having the same climax that was in Ajayan Bala’s Sachin cricket Club.

 Aascar Ravichandran has given out agreement copy to the media which shows that he holds total rights over the subject  Indian , that he purchased from writer Late Sujatha. As the Hindi film with Ranveer is not happening soon, Shankar has lot of time to handle that. Till then he has to grapple with Writers Association verdict on two complaints, if it goes against hi
