Kannappa poor opening / Sasikumar next another Sri Lankan story / Me Skinny ?- Samantha

 Kannappa performed its best in the Telugu version, which was very much expected due to Prabhas’ presence. Going a step ahead, it could be said that the film got major traction only because of Prabhas‘ cameo. With little support from the other dubbed versions, the film did a business of 9.50 crore net at the Indian box office on day 1. Adjusting for GST, it opened at 11.21 crore gross. It had a chance to cross the 10 crore mark, but mixed to poor word-of-mouth restricted the film from doing so.

With a reported budget of around 200 crores, Kannappa should have scored much above 15 crores on the opening day. 

After Tourust Family a blockbuster hit , Sasikumar next is Freedom . This is yet another Sri Lankan refugee story and has Lijimol Jose as heroine. Sasikumar will next be sharing screen space with Lijomol Jose for a film titled Freedom. It is written and directed by Sathyasiva, who is known for helming Kazhugu and Savaale Samaali. 

Sharing details on the storyline, Sathyasiva says, “This is a film based on a prison break that happened in Tamil Nadu during 1991-95. Sasikumar and Lijomol will play Sri Lankan refugees in the film. It will showcase the emotions of those who are wrongly convicted of crime.”

This is Sathyasiva’s second collaboration with actor Sasikumar after Naan Mirugamaai Maara in 2022. “My previous film with Sasikumar did not succeed commercially, but still had confidence in me, so I promised him that we would join hands again in the future. I presented him with the story of Freedom while narrating the script of Naan Mirugamaai Maara. He liked both of them and said we can do both. It is with his encouragement that I began working on this film,” reveals Sathyasiva.

“I loved Lijomol’s performance in Jai Bhim. This film required a strong female actor who can anchor herself and hold the film together,” he adds. Apart from Sasikumar and Lijomol, Freedom also stars KD Engira Karuppudurai-fame Mu Ramaswamy, Sudev Nair, Malavika Avinash and Bose Venkat.”

Freedom has music by Ghibran, cinematography by NS Uthayakumar and editing by Srikanth NB. The film is co-produced by Sujatha Pandian and produced by Pandian Parasuraman. Shot in Chennai and Kerala, the film is in the post-production stages and is expected to be released by July 1th. In a major move to expand its reach, Freedom will release in five languages — Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Kamal Haasan Rajya Sabha entry talks with Tamil Nadu CM Stalin’s emissary Minister Sekar Babu. MNM General Secretary A Arunachalam was also present during the discussions. One out of the six seats that DMK gets in July after it falls vacant will go to Kamal . It was formally offered to him. It will be put up at the annual meet of MNM. MNM spokesperson Murali Appas confirmed that the party is set to receive a Rajya Sabha seat but added that Kamal Haasan would present it at the party executive to name the candidate and get general body approval. Kamal’s MNM supported DMK in Lok Sabha polls and the latter had offered the Rajya Sabha seat. Kamal had offered to contest against BJP State President Annamalai and Congress offered him a `safe’ seat. Stalin however wanted him to go RS as part of INDIA Bloc.

Manchu Vishnu’s upcoming biggie, Kannappa‘s first song, Shiva Shiva Shankaraa released yesterday at the Art of Living ashram in Bengaluru by spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has surprisingly received a stunning response clocking more than 5 Million views in 24 hours on YouTube. The song features Vishnu exhibiting divine love for Lord Shiva amid picturesque locations with Music composed by Stephen Devassy. The song too struck a chord with its soulful composition and the dance was choreographed by Legendary Dance Master Prabhudeva. The cast is Mohan Babu, R.
