Andhadhun
was released in 2018. Those who did see it will find Bhramam, an entertaining
thriller. Prithviraj easily walks through a role of a con man musician, Mamata
Mohandas acts as the same like in My Boss ( probably a few volume level less)
and then the usual Jagadish ( reminds of Dentist Appukuttan) and for a change
Unni Mukundan does a submissive role. Good to see good old Shankar back on screen.
Now the
dialogues are quite artificial and theatrical. It looks like it was written for
the Tamil version. We have some gems like ` Like in Drishyam’ that we are
expected to roll over in laughter. Raashi Khanna has a short role and so there
is not much to talk about her . Despite the film being that of a pianist, the
songs by Jakes Bejoy is nothing to write
about.
.Lets move to direction and cinematography handled by the ace Ravi k Chandran. The screenplay, I think is not his but from the original. The comedy and the whole film on a whole appeared banal and loud for a Malyalam film. Coming to the cinematography part, I was looking forward to what he had done as he was quoted as - `pushed the envelope’. I did not find any such frames in this film. K U Mohanan work still remains the best.
Those who
saw Andhadhun in 2018 October and still remember it, the dialogue in Bhramam - SHIT HAPPENS.is most apt for this remake. Now
general comment is that it is a scene by scene remake. Then it cannot be bad
than the original. But Ravi K Chandran has accomplished this.
I thought
Bhramam would be a lesson on how a remake could be better-
Director Prithviraj and an ace cameraman Ravi collaborating. Making a wild rabbit to Wild Boar is the
biggest change made ( here too the symbolism is lost) and then taking away the creepy
chilly moments like the third guy hiding
in bathroom or when the crab cooking is explained all fall flat. The cinematographer turned director does not even bother to bring in the locales that
Kerala has to give it a Malayalam film feel..
