A R
Rahman ( ARR) scoring music for Ronnie Screwala – Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Hindi
film Pippa and the two recent announcements that he has come on board for the
STR- Gautam Menon film and another STR film directed by Krishna are signs of
the Madras Mozart picking up connections that got knotty or stuck in faulty
airwaves. These three announcements carry a meaning as the three people involved
with these projects had at one time joined hands with ARR to give music that is
still fresh. Rahman has
worked along with the producers of Pippa earlier as well. The collaboration has resulted in
some of the most iconic albums such as Swades, Rang De Basanti, Jodhaa Akbar and Delhi-6, amongst others. Producer Ronnie Screwvala
of RSVP said, “Patriotic and inspiring music has been A.R. Rahman's forte since
the beginning of his iconic career. We are happy to welcome the maestro onto
team Pippa. Collaborating with him has always resulted in
spectacular albums and I'm inclined to believe that his music will be the
beating heart of our film”. As ARR rightfully makes his 2021 entry with
a patriotic pitch in Bollywood, lets take a look at his home turf.
Over a
period , ARR to those watching his
career moves , came across as a person
moving away from the home turf – Tamil film music Though one could explain it
as moving to greater pastures like the International arena , his hard core fans
– lovers of Tamil film music yearned for a `Roja’ or a VTV .
The
spat over the nepotism in play at Bollywood and how it turned difficult for ARR
came out in the open after the Sushant suicide . The feeling generally by those
who swear by Madras Mozart was that he
sort of neglected Tamil film music , which he should not have and saw it as the
return of the prodigal as news come in of him signing films coming out from our
backyard.
The news that Gautam Menon- ARR magic is coming back together is music by
itself. This would be the trio's
third-time collaboration after the 2010 box office blockbuster, Vinnaithaandi
Varuvaayaa, and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada in 2017. The reunion of Director Krishna with ARR is
special as the Mozart has waived his policy that he does not score music for
remakes. Krishna – ARR comes together after Sillunu oru kadhal in 2006. The
songs of the film starring Suriya – Jothika- Bhumika recently send netizens in
a tizzy when cricketer Suresh Raina ( CSK) posted on Insta a few lines of the song Munpe …that he
sang for an interview. Gautham Karthik – STR film Pathu Thala is remake of
Kannada film Mufti. Last time that ARR
scored for a remake was Aamir Khan’s
Ghajini ( 2008) in Hindi. He does not score music for a remake film that
has music by a different music director, Krishna reveals that the Oscar-winner
agreed to come on board after a narration. "I have made many changes to
the original narrative. Rahman sir heard the narration and felt it was an
interesting script," reveals Krishna.
While Pathu Thala marks the third
collaboration between AR Rahman and Simbu after Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada,
it marks the composer's second film for Gautham after Kadal.
It also marks the coming together of Production house Studio Green ( who
produced Jillunu..). The production house has now become one of the big names
in Kollywood.
