Nenjam Maruppathaillai ,director Selvaraghavan - actor S J Suryah combo released after five years in the can, has done well at the box office. The Selva and Suryah fans turned up in large numbers at multiplexes in Chennai and Coimbatore to give the producers a Rs 4.55 cr Net ( India + Overseas). The 4th day Net is Rs 50 lakh.
Opening to mixed reviews, the film occupancy was not too high. As the expectation on the film was running high and no other film big enough to compete, theatres allotted maximum screens. Chennai had 223 and Coimbatore with 67 shows. Overall occupancy stood at 11-14% of the capacity. Trivandrum and Kochi in Kerala had a whooping 16 and 21 % avg occupancy. The film had an opening of Rs 1.30 cr . In Chennai, after 4 days, there are still 208 shows listed across movie halls.
Abiirkiniyal,, the remake of Malayalam film Helen opened to positive reviews. Producer- actor Arun Pandian and his daughter Keerthi play the pivotal roles. It had a good dose of pre-publicity too. The public patronage was poor. The three day collection is Rs 23 Lakhs Gross (India).
Mirugaa a crime thriller with Laxmi Raai and Srikanth, directed by debutante J Parthipan, joins the list of disasters with Rs 11 lakhs Gross in 3 days.
