A day after the Chennai protest, Rajinikanth branded the 2000 odd fans who took part as expelled members and told them in plain words – Don’t dirty the Chennai streets. I have made up my mind, I am not coming to politics. This has hurt the lakhs of fans as they feel that many of them who have been fan club members for more than two decades have been equated with people who have no civic sense. Some felt that they were indirectly called the scum of the soil. Hundreds of Whas App groups since yesterday saw fans flaring up with angry reaction to Rajinikanth’s statement.
Many pointed out that in 2017, Rajinikanth first sounded about his political entry. It was he who kept on fuelling the political fire among fan club members. They pointed out that something mysterious is going on. All media announced days ahead that Rajinikanth Makkal Mandram was going to stage a meeting at Valluvar Kottam with the motive to request their idol to reconsider his decision to not enter politics. Till the meeting took place and ended, there was silence. A day after the meet, Rajinikanth comes out with a condemnation note. Hearing the news, he did not utter a word against holding the meet.
In a statement, they said that does Rajinikanth think only the office bearers of the Mandram are real fans and others are fake ? They said that they feel that the statements issued are done by somebody using the signature. They asked him to come out and answer their queries. Fans going by the messages on the Whats App are in a mood to quit or disband clubs. Many have said that they have worked very hard than any other actor’s fan clubs and did not stick to just celebrating the release or 100 days of their idol’s film.
Meanwhile Tamilaruvi Manian the political advisor of Rajinikanth who quit the Mandram and stated that he was quitting politics had been reinstated as head of Gandhi Makkal Iyakkam, an outfit that he once headed. It happened at the same time when Rajini fans were protesting in Chennai. When Annatthe releases, one will have to see the effect on fan club reactions.
