Shankar's next Producer ? / BAD GIRL is Dravidian fetish about Brahmin girls ?

On expected lines, a war of words had broken after teaser release of Bad Girl Tamil film produced by Vetrimaaran company. director Pa Ranjith tweeted on his X timeline. He wrote, “Happened to watch #BadGirl, and it’s truly a bold and refreshing film! Director #VetriMaaran deserves immense credit for backing such a daring story. The film powerfully portrays women’s struggles and society’s expectations through a unique new wave cinema style. Congratulations #varsha.Anjali Sivaraman delivers an amazing performance—don’t miss this one!” Mohan G Kshatriyan responded - “Portraying a Brahmin girl(‘s) personal life is always a bold and refreshing film for this clan. What more can be expected from Vetrimaran, Anurag Kasyap & Co.. Bashing Brahmin father and mother is old and not trendy. Try with your own caste girls and showcase it to your own family first.” The final shot in the teaser shows the 2020 scenes of Thaali bajao during the Covid pandemic At the teaser launch Director Varsha said - I am not endorsing that women should smoke and drink through this film. I’m just telling the story of a girl that’s all this film is, it’s just a story and women can also be humans and not necessarily be of high character, that’s all.’ She added - I know I’ve not made a perfect film in some ways but for the Film Festival hopefully for the European audience, it will be acceptable. With the feedback I hope to make a theatrical copy that women here will watch and enjoy, Amit Trivedi national award winner ( Dev D) makes his Tamil debut with this film. Incidentally DEV D Director Anurag Kashyaap os cp presenting the film. its world premiere at the 54th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, held from 30th January to 9th February 2025. The film will be competing at the festival for the prestigious Tiger Competition.

Shankar will get no Producer was the refrain after Game Changer crash but it seems Producer Jayantilal Gada and Shankar are in talks. Gada who heads PEN is distributor of many big budgeted films like RRR and Kanguva in North. He and Shankar had finalised remake of Tamil film Anniyan in Hindi but the original Producer Aascar Ravi put forth a copyright claim and it got stuck. Whether it is to producer Velpari or a new film. Ranveer Singh had been in talks with Shankar for the remake and after that turned good friends. Ranveer had visited Shankar for his daughter’s wedding. Jayantilal Gada is known for Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Dulquer Salmaan’s Chup (2022) and Karthik Subburaj’s Mercury (2018)
