Thimimmarasu the Satyadev starrer that opened last Friday in Andhra and Telangana has got more than 80% collections and brought cheer to the exhibitors. Karnataka theaters are waiting for Hindi films lined up for I' Day release as there is no local language content. Tamil Nadu Govrnment dashed hopes of theaters reopening by ordering shutdown of major shopping markets, closing beaches and restricting temple entry. With 50% of the All India Covid cases reported from Kerala, theater will remain shut.
On July 30th, theaters across Ap/ TS opened to 100% seating capacity. 5 films were released. Morning shows showed poor attendance. By noon, crowds picked up at theaters screening Thimmarasu which has Satyadev of Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya and Bluff Master fame.. A remake of Kannada film Birbal, the film a legal thriller got rave reviews from netizens who saw the first show. The theaters are 80% full.
Other films are said to have lukewarm response including the remake of Malayalam film Ishq starring Priya Varrier. There was few anxious moments as East Godvari district had shown increase in Covid cases,
Karnataka theaters opened with 50% capacity has just spruced up but there is no saleable content. Telugu - Tamil- Hindi films are the biggest draw and there is no content. Bengaluru movie halls are waiting for Hindi films like Bell Bottom to release. Fast and Furious is on the release cards.
Though the numbers are only under 2000 State wise and under 300 in Chennai, the State Government locked out major retail markets in the metro and putting an end to any thought of theaters opening. Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathi films are already lined for OTT release. Many more may follow.
Kerala being the worst affected, biggies like Marakkar the Rs 100 cr budget film starring Mohanlal has been pushed from August release. For Onam, like last year, Keralites have Kurutthi starring Prithviraj releasing on August 11 in Amazon. Other OTT platforms have yet to announce any new Malayalam films.
