The Nomadic tribe, Narikorvars, was denied entry into a city theatre opposite Chennai main bus terminus. The theatre staff threatened the family, including the children, and they were forced to leave. The incident was captured on video and went viral. The theatre was screening the film Paathu Thala starring STR, which was certified U/A, which the theatre management said that it means that children cannot be allowed to watch the film.
The incident sparked controversy when netizens posted photos and videos of Rajinikanth's daughter, Aishwarya, attending a show of Dad's Darbar with her 10-year-old son at the same theatre, Rohini Theatres. As per the censor rules, children below the age of 12 can attend shows if accompanied by their parents. This led to netizens questioning whether the rules were different for Rajinikanth's family and the Narikuravar tribe.
Legally, the Rohini management could face a case of discrimination against the Narikuravar tribe, which is classified as the Most Backward Tribe in Tamil Nadu and was recently added to the Scheduled Tribe list by the Union Government.
