Chithirai Sevvanam ( Red sky of month Chithirai) fails to showcase the directorial talent of stunt choreographer Silva and to a certain extent does help debutant Pooja Kaanan to show her acting talent. The one line of the story is as old as cinema and only updating is that a reference to NEET is brought in. As the Pollachi sex video scandal had happened recently, we can say it was inspired by it.
Silva was
quoted saying dont expect any great action
scenes just because he was a stunt master taking to direction. Fine. How many
times we cursed cinematographers turning directors concentrating only on
visuals and leaving the content in the dustbin. So Silva instead of lifting
from Korean films, saw KTV non stop and
packed a screenplay loaded with melodrama in high ratio and TV serial writers
are bound to make this film their new guide book.
Samudrakanni
surprisingly does not lecture on NEET- mobile use by teens- political
interference and for that Silva needs to be thanked. Poor Pooja Kannan got trapped
in a role where she had to go overboard in her acting and she did it !!!. You have a funny BGM that is supposed to
scare you but instead wonder what those sounds meant. In this whole drab film, the eye candy is Rima
Kalingal. A figure hugging dress- coolers. Rima is a lady Inspector. Her character stands out like a sore thumb. Her
hubby is Akash Aravind of Nandanam fame. His acting skill is evident in the
scene when he grabs her hand as act of
reassurance in her search of the missing
