Valimai scrapes through : Warning bell for AK- Vinoth- Boney

Valimai 's Monday collection figures in Tamil Nadu and weekend has come as relief to theater and distributors. Like a thriller, Box office fluctuated drastically after a bumper opening. Second day ( Friday) saw a drastic 64 % drop when Boney Kapoor was talking about biggest opening on a non holiday . Shell shocked theater owners hit by the drop and all round negative reviews for the film on social media had the makers rush to makers. 14 minutes were trimmed. From Saturday, figures steadily climbed by 15% and by Sunday, it touched back full form. The Tamil Nadu gross stood on Day 4 at Rs 82 crores. The film was sold for Rs 70 crores. It meant that nett collections ( after tax ) would be at Rs 55 crores and not recover the investment. On Monday, the film recorded a Rs 4.80 crore collection and this came as a big relief. It meant that patronage for the film had not stopped totally and there was all chance to recover the investment.

Fourth Day figures were around Rs 19 crores and fifth day the figure was below 50% of the previous day. Lasting out till Friday with 18% occupancy as on Day 5 will make it a no loss position. Till March 10, there is no major Tamil film. Suriya's Etharkkum Thunindhavan, will release. On March 4th, Dulquar Salman's Hey Sinamika and Batman are releasing.

Except Karnataka, other two South States the film fell drastically after a bumper opening. From Monday, these states have negligible collection. North India figures are in the region of Rs 2.70 crores. On Sunday, few theaters in Mumbai reported near full shows.

As the film was given on an MG basis, the risk taken by Boney and Gopuram films ( distributor) was high. As same team starts shoot, Valimai has sounded the alarm bells that banking on Star power alone will not hold good. For Ajith it is more important as Valimai had a situation that was tailor made for a success streak. No release in three years and a hence an audience waiting to see him, 900 theaters in Tamil Nadu with unlimited shows and despite this, the box office figures should scare him.
