Valimai director says youths missed the point

Valimai the Ajith Kumar film director H Vinoth has said that the  film's message of peer pressure on youths by parents - relatives  and challenges from the society has not struck a chord with youth for whom it was intended.  For the first time he was speaking about the film post Valimai release . In an exclusive to DT Next, H Vinoth talks about what went wrong with the film narrative.  Vinoth is right on track as the deleted scene in which villain Kartikeya talks about Satan and God and justifies that one going to any extent of even killing parents to satisfy one's needs , has 1.6 million views and is the WhatsApp Status video and ringtone. Yet another scene in which Ajith says to hell with criticism and to build a empire using the stones hurled on them has 1 million views. An anti- establishment view that went well down with the youth

Going by Vinoth's observation, the mother sentiment through which the peer pressure was to be conveyed worked in reverse as the promos put out had only action scenes and as cop v/s biker gang conflict. Vinoth failed to put this message in a big way in the first half and instead went full throttle on Ajith's action scenes and conflict. As the film's core audience - youth were full charged with action and expecting more, Vinoth comes in with a message. The core audience walked out cheated.

Yet another point that Vinoth puts across is "  When you watch Valimai without any external influences and pressures of catching up on an early show taking away mob mentality from your mind, I'm sure even the youngsters would understand the several layers that have been woven in the storyline,". As anybody knows, a STAR film always gets a opening that Vinoth mentions and that was the case with Viswasam too. Women and family come in after the first three days of fan frenzy and that if the word of mouth talk says it  is okay for them to see. This happens if a film is released on a non festival day. The reason why a STAR film is released on festival days is that family audience come to   theaters in first crucial three days and in turn the talk generates more crowds on working days.

As further postponement of film was not possible , Valimai had to skip a festival release. It can also be credited to producer Boney Kapoor's achievement that he released a film on non festival day and had a collection as big as a festival day. On Monday the Tamil Nadu  collection was Rs 4.80 cr and on Tuesday it reported a fall of Rs 1 crore.
