Kamal Haasan kick started his election campaign for urban civic polls by introducing the candidates of Makkal Neethi Maiyam (MNM) . He made it amply clear that he was opposed to the two Dravidian majors and the national parties. Media reports say that Kamal was denied use of vanity van for campaigning by the poll officials. TV clips showed enthusiastic crowds welcoming him.
Replying to volley of questions, Kamal replying to corruption charges on AIADMK , he said that it was not any one party's monopoly and quipped that all those who committed corruption are lying in the Marina ( beach) samadhi. This comment could irk the DMK as well since Karunanidhi's samadhi ( memorial ) is also in Marina along with Anna and Jayalalithaa.
On Rahul Gandhi's speech in Parliament that BJP can never at any time dream of ruling Tamil Nadu, Kamal said that his party view was that no fascist power can ever rule over the State and on the use of Union Government term to address the Central Government, he said that from freeing from the East India company to land in North India company has taken place. On the Hijab controversy, he said that it was like beards were generalized and one need not think that white hair beard was different.
Asked if the split between BJP and AIADMK would help MNM, he said that his candidates were contesting in places where they would win and the alliance break up would not have any impact. He felt it was futile for Assembly to once again pass a resolution asking for scrapping NEET, since the Governor can only do what his Masters say.
