Sex with Goat scene in GoatLife reason for Gulf ban ? Boys a profit for Makers
The Goat Life that has been banned in GCC countries is now finally getting released by Bharain. This is after UAE. According to those in the know of the situation say that the film had an elaborate sequence which featured Prithviraj and a Hoat having sex. In words of the author , the scene was the soul of the film and it had found a place in the film version of the book that is already banned in the GCC. He said that Indian censors had removed it as it was a crime under Section 377. The manin chrachter Najeeb out of lonliness gets intimate with a Goat and indulges in sex with the animal. The makers had expected cuts in the scene but CBFC fully removed the portion. Challenging it would mean going to Court and CBFC had granted U/A certificate without the bestiality [portion. Even before the release, readers of the novel had demanded that the scene which was highlight of the book be kept in the film.
Recently, the Bollywood movie Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, was banned in the UAE, as were Malayalam movies Gaddama and Sameer a few years back, for violating the regulatory framework of the UAE.
"It’s a fact that some Indian media outlets with vested political interests are celebrating the ban of Goat Life in GCC countries except in the UAE. They are using the ban to draw comparisons and interpretations related to freedom of expression in India, where the legal system differs," said Nisar Ibrahim, an award-winning short film director and sculptor, who was part of the crew of many Indian films shot in the UAE told the Law Reporters.ik
As per Director Blessy, the film was made at cost of Rs 85 crores and this included the interest occurred through COVID waiting period. As GCC forms Malayalam film overseas market and it being dried up due to banm Goat Life makers claim that UK market and UAE has given Rs 35 crores in 6 days. The Malayalam film in 6 days has collected Rs 34 cr nett in Kerala and in Tamil Nadu it has collected Rs 3 crore in same period. In Andhra States and Karnataka, it was dismal. Total nett world wide the collection is at Rs 81 crores.
The talk is whether Goatlife is a bigger hit than Manjumel Voys. Answer is that looking on Return on Investment, Boys is a clear winner as it collected Rs 60 crores in Tamil Nadu. The film’s Telugu version is coming this Friday.. The setback for Goatlife was the loss of GCC market as the subject was centred around that region. By this week the box office of Goatlife ends but in case of Manjumel Boys the box office did not die down in a week and it only increased.
