Chennai, May11,2021(southfilmy): Drishyam 2 remake in Hindi has gone to the court over copyright issues raised by production house Viacom 18. Tamil film Anniyan remake in Hindi had run into trouble after producer Aascar Films objected to director Shankar remaking it without his permission.

Kumar Mangat acquired  the remake of  Malayalam film Drishyam2 sequel of first part remade in Hindi  from Ashwirwad Films, producers.  Viaxom 18 who distributed the Drishyam Hindi remake film claimed  that they had bought the rights to make any further sequel - adaptation to Drishyam and moved the court. Mangat said that he was going ahead with the work. Bombay High Court restrained Mangat from going ahead with any shooting till the case is decided.

Viacom 18 claims that the producers Wide Angle Creations and Raj Kumar Theatres Pvt Ltd by which it had the copyright to produce new films by adapting the movie Drishyam.as per a remake rights agreement.

The original film Drishyam  story- screenplay is by Jeethu Joseph who also created the sequel  and directed both versions. The producer of both the films is Ashirwaad owned by Antony Perumbavoor, aide of Mohanlal. Kumar Mangat floated Panorama Studios International with Ajay Devgn (who acted in Hindi remake) and acquired the sequel remake rights.

Legal circles say that Wide Angle might have acquired the remake rights including the copyright  over the title Drishyam and subsequent adaptations to the original from Ashirwad. In that case Kumar Mangat cannot use the word for the sequel or in any publicity material. Also he cannot go back to the point from where the previous film ended and start from there.
