Sharmila - Rakhee back / AK- GVM rift -patchup - waiting

  Legendary actresses Sharmila Tagore and Rakhee Gulzar have made a grand return to the industry, not in nostalgic cameos but as the central protagonists of major upcoming films. Sharmila Tagore, whose last Bengali film was Antaheen in 2009, marks her comeback with Puratawn, directed by Suman Ghosh and produced by the National award-winning actress Rituparna Sengupta. Rakhee Gulzar returns after 22 years with Aamar Boss directed by the popular duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay. Her last appearance was in Shubho Mahurat (2003), a film still remembered as one of Rituparno Ghosh’s finest. This return of the stalwarts isn’t a coincidence. Bengali filmmakers are now crafting stories with these legends in mind, placing elderly women in the spotlight — not as background figures, but as emotionally rich, complex leads. Suman for his Puratawn, believed in casting 79-year-old Tagore not for commercial reasons but because she perfectly embodied the character he had in mind. He felt no need to compromise authenticity by choosing a younger actress made up to look older for box office collection. Shiboprasad, co-director of Aamar Boss, slated to release in May, observed that films featuring veteran heroines as protagonists often yield better returns than those led by younger stars. Looks like Bengali cinema is embracing age with pride. 

Old blog like that of Actress Heera surfaced and now an old interview of Director Gautham Vasudev Menon surfaces and as later events show that GVM anger was shortlived and both worked together. Now that AK has said that he will not do car racing and films at same time, no one need complain like GVM. GVM I think is still waiting for old friend Suriya. Read on :

According to International Business Time, Gautham Vasudev Menon revealed to a publication, “I was about to start the film when Ajith suddenly went abroad to race. And, when he returned, he started discussing his future projects with almost every director in K-town and finally decided to go ahead with Venkat’s Mangaatha. He asked me to wait till next year. But, why should I wait for him? I will only work with those who have their head placed firmly on their shoulder. If I have to wait for an actor for my film, it will either be Kamal sir or my good friend Suriya.”

The duo soon reconciled and joined hands for the 2015 film Yennai Arindhaal. Not only this but Gautham also praised the actor calling him friendly and comfortable to work with despite him being a big star.

Talking about Yennai Arindhaal, the film was fairly successful at the box office and earned positive reviews from the critics and masses alike. The movie also starred Trisha Krishnan, Anushka Shetty and Arun Vijay in the lead roles. It marked the final movie of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s police trilogy after Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyadu Vilaiyaadu which starred Suriya and Kamal Haasan respectively.

Suriya and Kamal have not worked with GVM after these films.

Rapper Vedan of Manjumel Boys - All We Imagine As Light in Jail / AK brother on Padma bhushan award

 

Rapper Vedan who sung for All we Imagine As Light and the promo song in Manjumel Boys is behind bard. Police officials have arrested Kerala rapper Vedan, after they recovered nearly six grams of ganja from his apartment near Vyttila in Kochi, Kerala.

The narcotic substance was allegedly recovered by the police following a tip-off. It is reported that Vedan had reached the apartment along with eight friends after a stage show.

Hirandas Murali, popularly known by his stage name, Vedan, is an Indian rapper and songwriter born in Thrissur, Kerala. The artist first found to fame in June 2020 when he released his debut music video, Voice of the Voiceless, on YouTube. The song gained attention and made him a well-known name among music lovers.

For his second music video, Bhoomi Njan Vazhunidam, Vedan teamed up with noted Malayalam music composer Sushin Shyam for the promo track Kuthanthram in the film Manjummel Boys. Vedan has sung songs such as Narabali for Nayattu and Maranathin Niram for No Way Out.

n 2024, he worked on Kondal Vedan Song for the film Kondal and Kisses in the Clouds for All We Imagine as Light. Vedan featured in KSHMR’s album KARAM with the track La Vida. His songs also include Vaa, Budhanayi Pira, and Social Criminal.

In 2021, Vedan was accused of sexual misconduct via a post that was shared on a Facebook page as part of the MeToo movement

He later issued an apology, responding to the allegations. He posted "It is possible that when I emerge from my retreat aimed at correcting myself I may not find myself capable of singing again… It might mean just going back to where I came from...I do not know. All I know is that no matter what happens in life, I do not want to be a man who behaves badly with any human being, especially women."

Anil S Kumar, brother of Padma Bhushan awardee, and actor Ajith Kumar, has taken to social media to share his happiness about his brother's achievement. Rajinikanth flies economy class / Vadivelu' film washout / Ajith GBU on May 8

 In spite of being the megastar of India, Rajinikanth chooses to lead a simple life. Throwing no starry tantrums, the actor’s humble lifestyle and respectful demeanour gave him an unbreakable fandom. Good Bad Ugly is likely to premiere on May 8, and in addition to the original Tamil version, other dubbed versions are also expected to stream on the platform. Usually, Kollywood films have a four-week theatrical window, which means that films arrive on OTT four weeks or 28 days after theatrical release. Even the Ajith Kumar starrer reportedly has a four-week window.

Directed by Sundar C, Gangers ,the Kollywood action comedy opened to mixed reviews from critics. Even among the ticket-buying audience, it is faring with mixed word-of-mouth. As a result, there was not much improvement on day 2. Morning shows started with 9% occupancy. There was some growth of up to 13% in the afternoon shows. Evening shows saw an occupancy of 14%, followed by 19% at night.

Reportedly, Gangers is made on a budget of just 16 crores. Against this cost, it has already earned 1.23 crores in 2 days. If calculated, the film has recovered 7.68% of the total budget. Considering the poor trend, it is unlikely to recover its cost and is heading towards the verdict of flop or losing at the Indian box office.

For Sundar C, it will be a big blow as his last directorial venture, Aranmanai 4, was a commercial winner and it earned 100.24 crore gross globally.

as per Mollywood Produers Association report, the film has been made on a budget of 175.66 crores. The film’s OTT and satellite rights fetched 35 crores. Theatrically, the film has collected a gross of over 260 crores and a share of 115 crores. With the theatrical share and non-theatrical business, the film fetched 150 crores.

When we include few other rights like Audio, for the budget spend amount of 175 crores, this isn’t enough. The primary reason for this is because of the film’s underperformance in other language markets. The film acquired a mixed word of mouth, and this was also the reason why the film didn’t put big numbers after the 1st week in Malayalam version.

Superstar Rajinikanth made a quick stop at a temple in the Anaikatti hills near Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore before he proceeded to begin shoot for Jailer 2. The actor was seen getting out of his car and went inside the temple to offer prayers. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 also stars Ramya Krishnan.

Mohanlal First Hindi film as hero / Yash no fees only SHARE for Ramayana

 Mohanlal will be acting for the first time in a multigoal film and that is Drishyam 3. The first two parts were in Malayalam and then remade in other languages including Hindi. Now the third part will comes in Malayalam – Telugu- Tamil- Hindi languages. Director Jeethu Joseph has scripted a subject that appeals to various regions – in short a Pan Indian film.

We hear that Ajay devgn who did the two parts in Hindi will be coming out with his own third version. "Buoyed by the past two editions’ success, Jeethu, Mohanlal and producer Antony Perumbavoor are keen to make the third outing a pan-India offering. This can become an issue for Ajay’s movie, as his Drishyam 3’s script is still being worked upon. One of the reasons why Ajay’s Drishyam has been successful so far is because the Malayalam original didn’t tap into the Hindi-speaking audience. But if Mohanlal’s movie releases much earlier than Ajay’s, that too in Hindi, it can be disadvantageous to the latter since they both always share story and plot points," a source told the tabloid.

The report further suggests that Ajay's Hindi version of Drishyam 3 may roll in October this year. It's because the actor has to reportedly wrap up Dhamaal 4 and Ranger before that. On the other hand, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak is apparently in talks with the original version's makers to know if both versions can have a 'simultaneous' release.

The heart of the Drishyam franchise has always been its suspense. Yet, despite arriving two years after the originals, the Hindi adaptations pulled in big crowds. Ajay Devgn’s versions of Drishyam (2015) and Drishyam 2 (2022) were box office gold, even though the audience was already familiar with the plot.

Yash refused an offer of 200 crore to play the antagonist in Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana. The superstar was being paid a sum of 150 crore for the trilogy, and he was offered an additional 50 crore distribution share for the film. But after the offer, there were lots of ups and downs with Ramayana, with Yash walking out as Ravana and walking in as the producer and then taking up the role free of cost, agreeing to take the producer share in the film!

Sachien is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, it is an adaptation of Mahendran's 2002 Telugu film Neetho with a few changes and marked the Tamil debut of Bipasha Basu. The score and soundtrack is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Jeeva and V T Vijayan took care of the cinematography and editing respectively.

In the interview with Hauterrfly, she revealed, “When I did my first film, I was 21 at that time. I was trolled so much for being skinny. My body changed in my mid-20s. That’s when I got a little curvier. I was trolled so badly, and it was harsh! It really affected me. I got called things like skin on bones, go get some weight… these are still polite things. There were some degrading things as well.”

She slammed people who make others feel bad about their bodies and called it bullying.

She also spoke about South's obsession with navels. “I used to be very perplexed earlier, too, because I’ve grown up in Mumbai. Suriya- Kartihk Subburaj Retro has not so far listed anyUSA priemeres shows. This is asuprise as every Tamil film with a Star has an USA premiere and nobody loses the opportunity to make money. Apart from this Surya and Karthik has a fan following in Tamil and Telugu audience, the latter being the majority of the viewers abroad. The results and reviews from India are a pointer for USA ticket sales. Has Kanguva of Suriya affected Retro in USA ?

The audio of the film was launched . Santosh Narayanan scored the music. At the function Suriya thanked entire crew including leading lady Pooja Hegde who dubbed herself in Tamil.  He made a special mention –“ If our films have been screened in the northern states and have earned the love of the people there, the main reason for that is producer Jayanthilal Gada. I would like to express my gratitude to him at this moment.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film 'Retro' stars Suriya, Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nasser, Prakashraj, Sujith Shankar, Swasika, Singam Puli, Karunakaran, Nandita Das, Ramya Suresh, George Marian and many others. Shreyas Krishna has handled the cinematography and Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music for this film. Touted as a romantic action entertainer, the film is jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films.
