Vijay Sethupathi not in Ram Charan - Suriya film / Was Maharajah China BO exaggerated ?

Vijay Sethupathi has clarified at a promotion event that he has not signed any film where he is playing second lead or a baddie. He said that either the role that was offered to him was great but the overall script was not worth or the script was great but the role was not meaty enough. It means Suriya 45 and RC 16 are not on the cards.

Meanwhile The VJS strarrer Maharajah has created a box office sensation in China. As the first Tamil film dubbed into Mandarin and screen in Chinna, it collected Rs 76 crores and as per Sacnik  Maharaja had minted approximately 24 crores gross overseas in its original run and upon its China release on November 29, it has grossed approximately 76+ crores gross there in 15 days. This took the total international collection of Maharaja to 100+ crores gross and there is still more to come.

Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, the movie is also nearing the 200 crores gross mark at the global box office and it should get there with major help from the Chinese market. It has so far grossed approximately 183.50+ crores, which includes 83.50 crores gross collection from the domestic market.

Maharaja is currently the 4th highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, behind Vettaiyan (253.50+ crores gross), Amaran (332.50+ crores gross), and The Greatest of All Time (457+ crores gross). Thanks to the superb run in China, it has managed to beat Dhanush's Raayan (154 crores gross) and Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 (149 crores gross).
The only chink in the China box office data that was coming out was that it was screened at 40,000 screens oout of the 86,000 screens.

Did Maharaja really get 40,000 Screens in China?

The Numbers dont make sense

In the 15 days since release in China, Maharaja has grossed 65.57 Million Yuan or around ₹76 Crore

Yet even if you count 10 people per screen for 2 shows a day

That means 800,000 tickets a day which translates to 19.2 Million Yuan a day

Which means the collections should have been around 285 Million Yuan so far

So EVEN WITH 10 PEOPLE PER SCREEN AND 2 SHOWS A DAY - MAHARAJA WOULD HAVE GROSSED 285 MILLION YUAN or around ₹335 Crore

So it's impossible for Maharaja to have got 40,000 Screens

Especially because China has 86,300 Screens!!!!

You think Maharaja has 50% Screens in China ?????

It is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!

So i checked and saw that Maharaja has a total of 260 shows in China today in the Big 5 Cities which translates to around 70 Screens

Even if we assume 10 times this number for rest of China (I assume they won't play Maharaja in Zhongdian China or Burqin China) that's still a MAXIMUM OF 700 SCREENS

700 is not 40,000

700 Screens, 5 shows a day and 50 people a show means 175,000 Tickets at 4.2 Million Yuan a day which translates to around 63 Million Yuan in 15 days

700 Screens, 5 shows a day and 50 people a show means 175,000 Tickets at 4.2 Million Yuan a day which translates to around 63 Million Yuan in 15 days ( source Balusboxoffice.com)
