Vetrimaaran Viduthalai 1 under attack for plagiarism - Dhanush important announcement today

While producing the movie Viduthalai , Vetrimaaran asserted that he drew inspiration for its plot from a short story titled "Thunaivan" penned by B. Jeyamohan, known for his strong endorsement of right-wing ideologies. "Thunaivan" narrates the tale of Konar, a leader of the Left-wing rebellion, who was killed in a violent clash. This story was initially printed in the Tamil periodical Ananda Vikatan in 1992. Despite Vetrimaaran's assertion that the film "Viduthalai" was based on Jeyamohan's story, it appears that numerous scenes from S. Balamurugan's book "Solakar Thoddy" (2013), written by the advocate and a member of the People's Union of Civil Liberties, were allegedly incorporated into the final product.

In his novel "Solakar Thoddy", S. Balamurugan vividly portrays the brutalities committed by the police during the search for Veerappan. Balamurugan believes that some of the scenes in the "workshop," a police interrogation cell where torture was allegedly employed, might have been inspired by his book. Additionally, he notes that his novel features a character named Subash, a compassionate police constable, who may have influenced the portrayal of Soori's character in the film.

Balamurugan argues that a filmmaker of Vetrimaaran's stature should have adhered to intellectual integrity and avoided distorting real-life events or taking credit for the work of others. He contends that Vetrimaaran's failure to acknowledge the influence of "Solakar Thoddy" has diminished the film's creative ethics, despite Vetrimaaran's recognition of another author, R. Bharathinathan, who penned the novel "Thariyudan," which also inspired the film's production.

Interestingly, while Vetrimaaran claimed that Jeyamohan's story served as inspiration, the movie does not incorporate any scenes from it. The rationale behind Vetrimaaran's statement remains unclear.
