Two major area distributors of MASTER pull out - STR film faces silent boycott

Thalapathy Vijay’s Master first hitch is that two of three top box office area distributors have backed out of the MG agreement and the producer is releasing it himself. Second hitch is that EPS Govt is not keen to give a 100% capacity permission as the citing of new Corona strain in the State as well many States like Karnataka going in for might curfew. The State Health officials feel that crowding of theaters to 100% during Pongal will be a risk if a corona virus infected person is found. Also theaters in Tamil Nadu along the Kerala- Karnataka border will face rush from across the borders and coming of infected persons coming across the border, especially Kerala, where the daily count is high.

Chennai- Chengalpet- Coimbatore, three C’s of Box office is must for Tamil film success. Except Chennai, other distributors feel that MG term is risky. Under MG, the advance paid need not be returned by producer. The public reaction(read family) to coming to cinema halls screening Master is to be seen says distributors. They are willing to go for a percentage basis share of collections. Producer is taking back these areas and going solo and started deals with theaters.

Meanwhile STR’s Easawaran releasing on Jan 14th is not getting theaters. Pressure from Master distributors on theaters and cinema halls fearing that a clash with Vijay- STR fans can take place is a fear factor. Producers in support of STR and distributors body head T R ( father of STR) is trying hard to break the resolve.
